Now we know why it's called a 'shortnose'....

Actually, I'm glad there are "sick" people out there then. I too feel better. :-)

I know none of you really care, but to set the record straight: It is 6695, the car was modified, and there was a Bonham's & Brooks auction at the 'Ring the day before. That is why the banners are down.

Like I said, I know it only matters to me (I'm sick like that), but now I feel better. Later.

According to Andreas Birner (of Barchetta.cc) this is s/n 6695, the "normal" 275 GTB/2 shortnose of Roger Battelier. Andreas says, "The photo was taken after race 2 of the FIA Cup for historical GT cars at the 29th AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring on August 12, 2001." Marcel concedes that he was mistaken as 7407 recently suffered nearly identical front end damage.

To me it is obvious that the car in the photo is not very "normal." It has competition Borranis, Scuderia shields and a very unique hood bulge/scoop. I can't find any other pics of Battelier's 6695 for comparison, but it is possible that the car was modified to look like 275 GTB/C s/n 6021. It is also obvious that the photo was taken at a Bonham's & Brooks auction tent. I don't know if there was an auction at the Nurburgring that day or not.

Silly joke.

See thread below.

Or just find it by checking down the list to the thread titled "What is this?????"

I sent this out to a couple of s/n buffs. Marcel Massini says it's 7407. I looked up some pics of 7407 on Barchetta.cc but none of them show that hood bulge. Maybe it's actually crash damage that happens to look a lot like the bulge/scoop on 6021? Whatever. All I can say is that I'd sure like to see a pic of that "Ford/AC/Ferrari especiale" that ran in the "Greenland Grand Prix."

That's not a recent wreck. That car is still in the as-wrecked, unrestored condition after the mishap in the 1965 Greenland Gran Prix 1000KM race. It skidded off the road into a pressure ridge on the ice pack while doing battle with the Ford/AC/Ferrari especiale that was later discovered in a Chechnian playground. Subsequent owners decided to keep it in its totally original battle-worn condition.

That is unfortunate to say the least.

A damn shame. If it was auctioned off, I hope it found a good home.

Then again, it could have been altered.

Not sure about that. What I do know is that the unusual hood bulge means that this is most likely s/n 6021, the first 275 GTB/C.

If it was Carmel, could it have been a victim of the Historic Race?

Hans, the Shirley car is a GTO (3729 GT). This is a 275. I'm not sure of when this pic was taken, but the venue appears to be the Brooks Auction tent at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, CA.

Not certain, but I think that may be the Jon Shirley car that had a fender bender this summer in Europe. Some farmer ran a stop sign, or something to that effect. If it's his car, it's been fixed and all is OK.

Nothing important here. I just ran across this image and thought I'd share. It hurts to look at it, though.
