Thanks Bart for the article. I really hadn't heard anything about this. It really is true Andrew that the old GT3 is the one I would pick out of the 996 range. It is so balanced and such a great joy to drive with a great soundtrack to match it. As a track day car I would pick it over the 360 any day of the week. On the open road it is a different matter altogether. It is just a better experience to drive a Ferrari. More passion than effectivness. |

The 996 GT3 is the best 996 ever when it comes to driving sensation if you believe what car magazines say. They said its much more funnier than a 996 Turbo and not as scary as a GT2 . Its a pure sportscar. |

I don't see the advantage to the GT3 in the US market, unless it's solely for the namesake. On paper the GT3's 0-60 is 4.7 v. the carrera 4's 5 second flat sprint; and the c4 is ~150lbs chubbier. So, why would you buy a 145k GT3 if you can get a C4 for ~ 70k, add on the engine package, suspension (factory or afetrmarket), sport exhaust, sport seats (or source a pair of gt3 seats), you would probably just break 100k. |

so i wonder how this car will compare to 360 modena with similar $ and performance. we all choose ferrari over porsche for the more "extreme" feel of the fcar. can this gt3 accomplish this? imho i think it will be close but still no cigar! |

Sorry, I stand corrected. The world will be a better place thanks to a new GT3. 150 grand still sounds pretty steep. That kind of money would buy a GT2 in Europe |

>> I am an real porsche enthusiast and I'm convinced that the GT3 is out of production. << Porsche has already announced a 2003 380 PS GT3. The question is whether or not it will also be sold in the US and at what price? |

I am an real porsche enthusiast and I'm convinced that the GT3 is out of production. Porsche is now building the GT2 which is a light weight version of the turbo with rwd. The GT3 "only" had 360 bhp but it still holds the record time around the Nurburgring (7,45 I think). Due to the limited production run the existing cars tend to really hold their value. The current face-lifted 996 can be fitted with an aero-kit to make it look like an old GT3. Maybe that was what you saw, but 90 grand sounds about right for a 2000-2001 GT3.

the first 996 GT3 is faster around thr Nring than a 360 modena and was cheaper . This one will be even faster and still cheaper @ around 100 000 euros. |

It should on be around $100k, however, Porsche did surprise a lot of people with the premium for the GT2 over the regular twinner, so who knows.

FWIW, I don't think the $150k price you read about is accurate. If and when the car is made available in the US, it is likely to be price around $100k plus some options. Furthermore, the GT3 as produced by PAG was slightly heavier than a plain 2WD 996 Coupe. The 2003 version is expected to be even heavier. |

as a previously active pcar enthusiast, i could not believe it when i read that pcna will be asking 150k$ for 2003 gt3 which is a light weight rwd 911 with 380 normal aspirated hp and a body kit. i could see such a car going for maybe 90k$. how do fchat members feel it will sell vs a modena in that price range? at least a twin turbo has awd and a substantial price adv over modena. and how about track performance comparo beteen 360 and gt3?
