Bruce,
Vegas was great. Wife was happy, one show per day and we did see all the casinos. That town has changed in those 10 years quite a lot.

The Bellagio fountain is the most incredible thing you can see for free. Utterly impressive. We were lucky and had a room with a view and could see and hear them throughout the day and night. SPECTACULAR!

Oh I see! When I saw the title of the thread I thought it was about BROS, the British boy band who had hits in the eighties such as 'When Will I Be Famous?'. My mistake!

Maybe I'm missing something.

"But why should it only be black rappers and athletes to own a Ferrari."

Jay, it isn't just the music artists and the athletes who have the Ferraris in the black community.

I think it's a matter of interests. Some get the cars to cruise around and show off. Some get them to collect them and admire in privacy. Others get them as purpose built machines meant to race about. Others for daily utilitarian use. The one common thread no matter what the like is the admiration of a well built machine with provenance to back it's illustrious status.

Arguments like these are moot. It leads to generalizations and reliance on stereotypical behavior. It's like arguing why there aren't more black athletes playing hockey, or race car driving, etc. Maybe the interest just isn't there. It's not coincidence or racism that draws children into basketball, football, golf, or whatever. If you grow up and your idol is Michael Jordan, you'll try to pick up a basketball and give it a go. If your idol is Alain Prost you'll be sitting on your father's car making car noises.

Rob you make a good point. But why should it only be black rappers and athletes to own a Ferrari. When was the last time you saw Puff Daddy at a local Ferrari event? I don't want to "force" people to accept others, but I believe that through similar interests, people shed their preconcieved notions about others, especially when it comes to race. What I'm trying to say is that I notice when there are no "ethnic" people in a crowd. I think it is because I grew up in such a multicultural area of Toronto. I live where the West Indies, China, Italy and the middle east collide to give you a rich fabric to learn from. It is even more evident to me since I've been married to a beautiful black woman for over 8 years. You get to see the little things that people do when they are uncomfortable, and I notice when my wife is uncomfortable also.

Good point Steve.

I always wonder in private if I'm doing anything wrong on my part by not having a more diverse online community. For one, no one really talks about it and you can't necessarily tell unless you meet them in person. I also think this board represents a more diverse group than other Ferrari clubs. Mainly because this board doesn't have geographical borders.

To be honest, I haven't seen many "bros" at FCA type events, but I know the hip hop crowd is into Ferraris. Dr. Dre had his Testarossa in a video and P Diddy has a 360 spyder and just watch hip hop videos for an hour and you'll see a Ferrari. The other crowd that has quite a few Ferraris is the pro athletes. More power to them, but I think most just have more cars than they know what to do with and any collection like that will include a Ferrari. I would like to see more diverse die hard Ferrari enthusiasts.

Besides just racial and gender diversity, how about sexual orientation? No one is into Italian clothes more than homosexual males. Don't you think that would also carry over to Italian cars? I was into Italian cars first and that initiated my interest into Italian clothes. Luckily I had some gay friends to help me pick outfits. My idea of a good outfit was jeans and a racing t-shirt.

I believe I'm a better person and that I enjoy life more with diverse surroundings. However, I don't like it thrown on me artificially. I treat everyone the same from the start (even the French), but I find the most interest in those I can learn and grow from regardless.

OK Guys, here is a new twist. Ask Enzo, Sir William Lyons and Dr. Porsche, and I am sure they will agree that "It's all about the Race". The first one to the checkered flag. (the only kind of race that really matters)

I'm with you Paul.

Who cares, it's about cars.

We don't need to go on a crusade for Ferrari awareness. The brand recognition is strong enough to reach all races.

Being a "yellow" man myself I don't need Ferrari force fed to me to know that I want one. There are plenty of other races who drive Ferraris. One of the most respected car collectors (not just Ferraris) is Japanese. There are also plenty of Ferrari owners who are black. Look no further than the high profile celebrities; I mention them because it is obvious they can afford to have and they indeed have these vehicles. I have acquaintances of all different races who drive Ferraris. One of my groomsmen was from the Middle East and his family has more than I can count. The other was French and his family could care less for them. They're into real estate and a comfortable luxury sedan is all they care for (father and sons).

It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with a passion for the cars. I'm sure there are plenty of other people who could afford these cars but opt for something else. My father comes to mind. He has owned some Ferraris and has not gone back to them (sold them before I was born, I'm afraid).

Honestly Jay, I never gave it any thought. I dont worry about people thinking Im a racist because I drive a ferrari. I dont see the connection. I see where people can assume a ferrari owner is rich but didnt think it had anything to do with color. People of all races own ferraris, thats a fact. Ignorance might be the problem if people think otherwise. Not much one person can do to change that kind of thinking if thats the case. What is the thinking here? Is it a case of only white looking people can afford them or is it a preference thing that black people dont like ferraris? This is the first Ive heard of this, really.

Paul it matters because there are racist people in the world. I don't care what color you are either, but how do we as Ferrari owners look to those on the outside? Do we look like racists because the majority of owners are white or because at all of our events there is only a sea of white faces? It is something I noticed a long time ago, and it is something that I want to change. I invite all of my friends (the majority of which are black) to see the cars and come out to the events. It is important to expose others to different cultures, and Ferrari is a culture.

Hey Jaybobby and Richblackguy, I'm from southern Italy, does that count?(you know what they say about Italians from the south) :-) Actually my wife is black and she made an interesting statement. Seems that there are very few black persons at all of the events and into Ferraris in general. Yes there are ethnic people, Asians, Italians, Jews, Arabs, but the black representation seems to be very low.
