Never mind the interior. That car is obviously abused. Note the car being used as a hockey stick prop.
Abused I tell ya!

I Wonder if that was the car Mike Sheehan had for sale about a year ago. Both you guys have a point, the good majority of Americans don't know who MS is, I being an F1 Fanatic usually educate him. I don't any hockey players by name because I don't follow the sport, but that doesn't mean my counterpart in Hockey is incompetant in F1. By the way what an ugly ass color.

The experimental eye surgery was a success, and his color perception returned...guess that's why the car's up for sale...

David S, I have to agree with you. I don't think many people in the U.S. have any idea who MS is. I do, my friends who are car enthusiasts do, but most people don't. You're right about the "highest paid athelete" thing. I've lots of people say, " who?", most of them assume it will be someone like Tiger Woods. Ask most Americans on the street to name 5 race car drivers and I bet you get 5/5 NASCAR names.

Dapper,

Yeah, sorry to say, I still stand by my original statement. Many folks never heard of Pavel Bure before but in North America and in Russia he is among the hockey elite, one of the most talented to play the game. Still, he's world famous even if few people in Europe know him.

I've been to London a couple of times and in the local paper, the sports section was headlined with F1 news. Why? Because there are a lot of folks reading the paper who love the sport. They are very knowlegeable and ardent supporters of F1. Schumacher is certainly a household name over there. After all, Europe is F1's headquarters, most of the drivers live there and hang out there. In contrast, here in the US you have a very tiny F1 fanbase. The sport is barely covered at all in the local media. We get the races on Speedchannel and that's about it. In NY, we have several major newspapers. The NY Times will summarize an F1 event, if at all, and usually it's buried in the back of the sports section. Does this help promote the sport in the US? Absolutely not!! How can anybody in the US know Schumi if his name never comes up in the news here? Go ask a NYC cab driver from Bangladesh if he heard of Michael Schumacher. You'll be lucky if he just knows how to get you to your destination in one piece!!

As I mentioned before, NASCAR is king here. Even CART and IRL have lost huge numbers of fans. That's why they are losing so much money. F1 doesn't show up on radar with the typical motor racing fan. Search the 'chat for an old post on Schumi visiting Dallas. You'll see that he showed up by himself and went largely unnoticed. This is typical here. Over in Europe, he cannot do that because he would be mobbed.

And yet, repeating my first statement, which was worded very carefully, Schumi is STILL world famous (including the US) AMONG the FERRARI tifosi AND F1 FANS. That means there are thousands upon thousands of Schumi fans in the US. But that is out of 280 million people. In my book, that means he is unknown OUTSIDE of the car enthusiast world in this country. On his home turf, Schumi is very well known, of course but, again, ask any non racing fan who he is and most people will not know.

So, I agree to disagree with you here. Anyone else have an opinion for/against?

David S, vehemently disagree with you on the Schumi view, so we'll have to agree to disagree on this.

BTW I spend a lot of time in US on hols and work, but also in many other countries (they do exist outside the US funnily enough). I spend most of my time working with americans, my company is 50% American and my boss is American, so I'm not just stabbing in the dark here.

Dapper,
I'm a bit puzzled by your "ludicrous" description about my comment on Michael Schumacher. Perhaps you consider the UK the extent of "the world" and F1 is HUGE over there in Europe, but over on the other side of "the pond", the typical sports fan has NO CLUE WHO MICHAEL SCHUMACHER IS!!!!!!!! In the US, Baseball, Basketball and Football (NOT soccer) are the most popular sports. Most of those fans don't even think that race car drivers are even "athletes".

Next time you go on holiday here in "the states", take a little survey. Ask 100 people in New York CIty or LA and ask them if they know who MS is. If you're lucky, they may know the name but will have no idea that he is tied for most World Championships in F1. This is not a "ludicrous" statement, this is REALITY here in the US!!! Over here, NASCAR is the most widely watched sport in Car Racing. F1 gets minimal exposure, it's pitiful.

I agree with your earlier post: World famous is just that, someone who is known around the world. It does not mean that EVERYBODY in EVERY COUNTRY knows the person!! And here in the US, Michael Schumacher is NOT a household name, although he is CERTAINLY World Famous in my book. Sorry to break it to you but those are the facts.

He played for the Vancouver Canucks for a good number of years but when where the money called him...can't blame him for that but man does he get booooed when he plays back in Vancouver.

At my first BC autoshow a couple of years ago, he had ordered a yellow modena and usually, Ferrari's are shiped in crates by boat but Mr. Bure had his flown in from Italy which showed a whopping CDN 10K fee for transportation!!!

Now, about Pavel Bure, he is one of THE fastest human beings on skates. Being from NY and being a Ranger fan (no flames about that please), I have the advantage of watching his skill and talent on a regular basis. That is, until he got injured and blew out his knee earlier this season. He's expected back later in the season but by then, it might be too late to have him propel the Rangers into the playoffs. Maybe next year...

Just to give another example to the previous posts about "world" famous:
Michael Schumacher.
Other than Ferrari's tifosi and F1 fanatics, NOBODY has ever heard of Schumi. Every year, they do a "highest paid athlete of the year" list and every time, Schumacher is number one (beating out the boxers). The newscasters always do a double take "Michael Schumacher, who the heck is he and why is he the highest paid athlete?" Just goes to show, you can be world famous, well paid, and still, millions of people will have no clue who you are....

He used to play for Florida, now he plays for the Rangers and probably doesn't get to drive his 550 in Manhattan much. If I remember correctly Anna Pornakova gave Pavel or Sergei Federov (another hockey player; Detroit) a Maranello as a gift, don't know if this is it though.

Gorgeous car nonetheless, interior is questionable, imo.

PS, who the HELL is Ronaldo?? :-O

Hi Dave, I understand your point, but Bure is Russian and hugely popular there and many other countries where hockey is a popular sport (unlike the UK). Would we say Ronaldo is not world famous because most people in the US and other non-soccer/football countries have no idea who he is?

Anyway, if he wasn't world famous before, he will be soon with the astroturf-carpeted Ferrari.

Sean, people who are WORLD famous are just that, seemingly regardless of if other people follow their particular sport/religion/interest etc. He's obviously very popular in USA but outside there (yes it may come as a shock to many but there is an outside to the USA! I spend a lot of time there so no offence intended) I wouldn't say this guy was in such a category!

In fact he's more likely to get WORLD famous when word spreads far enough about his choices in automotive colouration combinations than his chosen sport.

Yes, world famous if you are into hockey/sports. One of the best hockey players around. Also known because of his past links with Anna Kournikova.
Check out his bio and "compensation" here:

I must agree the green indoor/outdoor carpet must go, but it's interesting that the interior doesn't look green in the picture with the plane.

I actually like the leather color (I have a friend who has a Porsche 911 with silver exterior & this interior, and it looks a LOT better in person than in photos; very soothing), but that green carpet?

YUCK!!!!! Looks like astroturf!

i was never a fan of the 550 interior... i can picture it in a Ford. they need to ditch the contoured plastic look and go back to the stitched leather style.
