Tom, uh, oh, that reminds me of the Indy GP. I was on a balcony in the paddock area looking straight at the loo. Was funny to watch all the drivers hit it before jumping into the car. Makes sense obviously. No nobody from ebay collecting...

My table is actually based on an old F1 Goodyear (slick). It must have completely hardened out, no smells from that baby. Covered with a glass plate to make it a nice side table.

semi-amusing race memorabilia story:

a guy that used to work for me was a nascar insider. he got a race-used tire from bobby labonte's (it was one of the labonte's) car and had it signed by bobby. very cool collectible!

however, he insisted on keeping it in his office.

note to all: race car tires do NOT generally smell good! total nastiness in the office. i think he tried every brand fo aerosol deodorizer known to man before finding something that could (kinda) block the nasty smell. i don't know how he worked in there with it!

rims should be less nasally offensive, one would assume. happy horsetrading on this one.

doody.

Be careful, Martin. Check around for similar items from reputable dealers. Could be a BBS wheel never used, it could be off of Rubens' car, or straight from the BBS factory. Could be real, too. Look around a little and you should determine fairly easily what it's worth. There's more of those out there than you'd think.

Hose reel is no joke. At the Monoco GP I found that several teams had used the for just that purpose!

Sorry, sorry, sorry...

By the way: By installing a bottom to it you could also turn it into a giant ashtrey
:-) :-) :-)

Martin
Let's start a bidding war....I'll go $2. Even if it turns out to be a fake I can use it for a garden hose reel in the back yard.

Bill, welcome to Jens' "Idiot club". At least I'm in good company. Table looks great.

Self made Senna replica I presume?

That wheel would probably trade for a minimum of $350 without any proof of provenance.

I got a wheel, with a much less famous claimed provenance, from Silverstone in the mid 90's and it was $200 bucks for the wheel and retaining nut.

Well worth it in my book.

For what it is worth, there was a regulation (may still be) that each team have their name spray painted on the interior of the wheel (hence, Ferrari on that one). My wheel is a Lotus wheel and was purportedly used by Zanardi.

Who cares, I don't. It still had some dirt on it when I got it. I was instantly in love to just be near it.

I fully agree with Nika, provenance is everything in memorabilia trading. Even more so than in the art world as a fake is harder to ID.

Having said that if you look e.g. at the Exoticar catalog (or one of their shops) you can find things like that without the Schumi history selling for far over $ 1,000. As Jens said, some idiot is gonna turn it into a table....hmm wait a minute: I have a similar table at home...

So $ 1k would probably be a fair price for a F1 rim, be that with or without Schumi. The fact, that he raced it is hard to prove and as long as he hasn't signed it, doesn't count for that much anyway. But it seems to be a genuine F1 rim and that is worth quite something. Probably even genuine Ferrari F1 rim.

Hey Martin - I have a few race rims in my garage....used by *famous* racers (blush)

I thought I had to PAY a dollar to have them removed....but if you want I send you one....heck...I'll even sign it!!!

:-)

What guarantee does he have that this is original? Does he deal in memorabilia? I'm 10 times more critical about these so called dealers in autographed/used equipment etc. I recently read it's one of the phoniest industries. I"m happy the Schumacher autograph I have I watched him sign.

Hello Martin,

How are you? Would bid not more than say 500-1000 Euro for this! Anyhow I am pretty sure that some idiot will pay more just to make a nice table out of it :-)

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. Remember that this item has absolutely no use till you got the rest of the car :-)

How much would you guys pay for an item like that?
I am totally lost. The guy does not want to give me a price but wants me to make an offer. Well: $ 1 is an offer...
