I'm not sure of the origin, but track pads create lots of dust. So white wheels just become black. I suppose powdercoating the wheels black just speeds up or hides the progression.

What is the origin of black wheels on race cars? NASCAR, INDY etc... Don't tell me a 32 Ford. Is there any reason the wheels are black? I was noticing on another thread and saw some crash test ferraris with black wheels and wondered.
