I had a 1995 355 Berlinetta, never had any problems with it, except a ECU replaced under warranty. Sold it with 22,000mi on the odo. This included a 3000mi trip from Austin to Santa Fe NM and the sw USA at 140+. If my BMW was as good i would be lucky.

Thanks, great info. I was wondering when i should start to think about changing my Pzero tires, since reading a few people talk about 5000 mile usage etc. I guess I'll just have to judge for myself, in the dry of course ;)

Wouldn't want to fork out for new tires if well-worn ones are quite ok in the dry. I'm mainly talking about the rears here. A friend has Pzero C's on his and boy do they get sticky!

When you are dealing with a racing or performance tire that one of it's best qualities is the softness of the rubber, which means it bites well, then everytime the tire heats up under use and then cools down, it doesn't quite return to it's original softness. The reason most people shouldn't be too concerned about this is a 1-2% difference makes almost no difference for your ride to work, but makes a big difference on the track.

When tires get heated up and cooled off alot the rubber gets hard. It has something to do with sulfur bonding with something else or something like that. Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about can help out.

Hi Rob,

What do you mean by 'heat cycled' ?

Cheers

If you're only driving a Ferrari in the dry, then I wouldn't worry at all about changing your tires. Tires have the most traction in the dry with little or no tread. However, not good at all if if does rain or you go through some water run off. Flip side is you might need to pass inspection or by the time tires have no tread, then they've been heat cycled so many times that they probably don't handle well.

98 355 spider 5 k miles - 1 k by me - had for 4 months - no problems luv it - only tiny prob is when taking off emergency brake - sometimes light for brake stays on - although brake does fully disengage. i may have to pull up the emergency brake handle and release again - then it goes off - this is not even barely worth mentioning because i know its some dumb little switch in there and algar has told me that they will fix it free of charge and that if i want i can wait til the spring when i take it in for service. But they were more than willing to look at it now if i wanted.

Leo-
I've had my '96 F355 Spider for about a year and a half. The only unusual problem I had was a broken wire between the ignition system and the alarm...while it made the car unstartable, it was only $120 to repair. I'm very pleased with the reliability so far.

One warning...I got 5000 miles on my first set of rear P-zeros. I've heard from other owners that my experience is about typical for tire wear. No complaints, I loved every mile....

Leo,
You should have zero reservations about a 355.Had a '97 for 2 1/2 yrs. Loved it.Only prob was when very new cats were replaced under warranty.Put on 12 k miles. In spite of Tom's good luck would buy a non first yr production car for many reasons.(95 was 1st yr for 355.) Good luck. You'll love it.

Leo, I have owned a 1995 F355 for the past 1 1/2 years. It now has about 16,000 miles on it. Other than the 5 year/30k major service, I have had no problems. It runs like a champ and would not hesitate in driving it anyware or any distance. It has been very dependable. Tom

Im shopping around for a F355, how reliable are they mechanically etc..I am aware that the 308-328 are solid dependable cars if taken care of well.
