Please note that my comment regarding airbags are for idiots was supposed to mean that they were designed for people that STILL do not wear safety belts ... not that airbag supporters are idiots. Sorry if this upset anybody. Pete |

No way! I honestly thought that people all wear seat belts nowadays. I can't imagine not having one on...even if I am only moving the car 10 feet....i feel almost as if I was missing an article of colthing. |

I'm a much bigger fan of social Darwinism than of steering wheel air bags, which doesn't say much. But seriously, if you don't wear your seat belt, should we as a society facilitate, if not encourage, your reproducing... |

Yep airbags are for idiots that do not wear their safety belts ... I still cannot believe that people don't, but they are responsible for a very expensive and overly complicated invention that is NOT required. Some people just do not have any brains ... but unfortunately they probably do not insist that their children wear a safety belt also ... Pete |

Installing an airbag in a model is not just sticking in a wheel with a bag; it's a complete system, involving calculations of restraints and placements of padding, etc. etc. etc. Hence, no 348 nor TR/512TR/F512M was ever sold with an airbag(s). As for motorized belts, the FedGov required them for 1990+ model years as a transitional safety item before airbags became mandatory. Hence, 1989 348TSs did not have motorized belts, but 1990+ models did. Convertibles were exempt from this requirement. Kindly keep in mind that these requirements are US market specific only; hence Brian may have a 1994 355 without a bag (all 355s in the US are 1995+ model year designated). As for having an "excellent looking" steering wheel, I removed the airbag wheel from my 355 and replaced it with a MOMO wheel (using a Challenge spacer and also a quick-disconnect). This improves the position of the wheel, particularly for track use, and gives me much more leg room (additional thigh clearance). I don't think safety is compromised very much, as I always wear my belt(s), and airbags are designed to be supplemental in any event. vty, --Dennis |

Everyone is getting the right answer! All 95 models were installed with an Airbag. My 94' 456 is the very few ones without one. I am curious as well to see if any very late 348 spider or 512M had installed one. |

So this means you have to stay earlier then 94 to have a decent steering wheel? |

All F50's are "1995 production" even though many deals were closed in 1996. Ferrari had to slip this in under the mandated 1996 air bag rule. F50's are passive restraints, no air bag, "built" in 1995 for US consumption. |

In the 8 cylinders, it was the 355. 348's had motorized seatbelts in the US market. I'm not sure, but I think the 512M and 456 were the first 12 cylinders. I believe 95 was the year they became required in the US. DAve |

I can not find this information. In specific, I would guess a 308 did not have one. What was the first model to sport an airbag? This will prompt my new shopping for a second car. |
