UPDATE...for Matt! The three other tires that I ordered were date coded "2502" (week 25 of '02). The other 4th tire that I purchased last month was date coded "4802". The tire dealer honored the agreed-to price of $75/each. The ferrari gets new rubber tomorrow! |

Matt, thanks for the heads-up on the date codes. I've already asked the sales guy to check them when he gets them. By the way, I also sent you an email about my corrupt QV service manual...can you repost on the your FTP? |

Greg, 5 years is a good score. 10 or 15 is a bad score. |

The first one I bought was ordered back in December 2002...I'll check the date codes on the next 3. Even if they are a year old...still a good score. |

Just saw this on one of the news service web sites. COUNTERFEIT TIRE SCAM SWEEPS NATION "Hoping to capatilize on the skyrocketing price of high performance and collector car tires, off shore producers of inferior grade tires are flooding the market with a back room scam worthy of a carnival barker. Using the old, "I think we only have one left" type of enticement, tire dealers are passing off low grade third world counterfeit tires as the real McCoy to unsuspecting sports car owners looking for bargain replacements for their expensive OEM sports car tires." Etc, etc. |

"Curious what the date codes on them are...." Me too. I am sensing that they must be close to hockey puck by now. |

Wellthe day didnt start off that well. Started to take the Ferrari out and noticed the rear drivers-side tire was near flat. So I inflated the tire just enough to drive it onto a ramp and then placed the rear of the car on stands. Sure enough, there was a large diameter nail in the tire. I took the wheel to my local tire shop hoping that a plug or inside patch would do the trick because tires still had enough tread for another year+. The tire guy removed the tire and said that the hole had caused enough damage that a patch or plug wasnt safe. sir, you need a new tire Damn! I really didnt want to spend $300 at the moment, but if thats what it takes, I guess I will. The guy who was helping me noticed the Ferrari center caps and told me he was a huge fan and had seen the car several times around town. As we were talking he said he thought they happened to have one TRX tire in stock, left over from someone who ordered one and then never picked it up. Someone back in the racks found the tire. I asked whats the price?", not sure, lets go check the computer He pulled up the tire and to his surprise, no price stated. He said...make me an offer, $75?, deal. $75 for a brand new TRX tire! As I was driving home, I called back to the tire store, can you find me 3 more?. 20 minutes later, Mr. Owens, I found 3 more at other store locations, Ill sell them for the same price, $75 each, theyll be here Wednesday. 4 TRX tires for $300! This was the score of the year! The day sure ended well! |
