Mark, That is exactly why I am not sure about taking it on a long trip. Knowing that the whole time I would be worrying about getting stuck. My eyes would be watching the temp gauges more than the speedo. |

Driving position is somewhat uncomfortable, but I think it was more the emotional aspect, just waiting for something to break, leak or shut down. I also would not hesitate to do it again, after a major check out of all failure prone componants, especially hoses.... |

Hey Mark, I bought my 308 QV in Forrest Hills New York and drove it home to Atlanta with my friend. It was SO much fun. I love that car so much. The car drove perfect, except for the flat spotted tires that wobbled nicely at 65-70. I drove the car 1000 miles in about 36 hours. Not one single problem. I only complained when I could not stretch my left leg at all. I would not hesitate once to drive it another 1000 miles. |

Long trips are great as long as you break them up. I like to stop and take a look at the scenery and stretch the legs when I can. For me the car is very comfortable, but I think it was built for guys my size. (not supersized) I actually prefer the longer trips where you can really get away from the regular roads and start to have some fun. Make sure your car is well maintained. Check all the usual stuff before going on a road trip. (Oil,tires,brakes,lights...)As always pay attention to what you are doing and respect the locals. Remember there is probably nothing better than busting some smart aleck Fer-rar-i driver. Something to tell the folks at the diner. Note: If a radar detector goes off in the middle of nowhere it really means something. Hit brakes ask questions later. |

I have been thinking of taking a long trip (500-600 miles) in my 308. It runs great but the thought of it breaking down several hundred miles from home is something I worry about. Also I was thinking it would be an exhausting car to take on a long trip. Mark what was it that made it exhausting. Was it the ride, the noise, the seats or a combination of the three. |

Great to hear of someone using the car as it should be. We email and fly so much now a good road trip is unheard of anymore. Just for the joy of it driving is getting harder and harder to do, or is actually less of a habit. Nice going |

Just got back from a 7 day road trip in my '82 308 GTSi. Left Colorado Springs, took Rt. 70 through Colorado to I15 in Utah, arrived in Las Vegas on day 2. Left Vegas after a couple of days and hit Arizona for a few days, took Rt 66 and I40 back to Albuquerque, then I25 home! Very exhausting driving for great length of time, and only 2 problems: upon arrival in Vegas, expansion tank was boiling and spewed out excessive coolant, and stuck throttle on I15 in Vegas. Refilled coolant to proper level, no further probems; took carb cleaner and WD40 to very dirty throttle return coil spring and no further problems! |
