But it does look like it started life as a conversion van (wonder if it can pull a trailer)

Andreas,

As long as I know all laser speed traps in Germany are from Leica. Also a swiss company:
Sometimes I think some swiss people are even more german than most germans :-)
Dozens of speed traps, mobile emission testing etc.
Sounds stricter than in Germany to me...

Jens, actually I went to college in St. Gallen (Betriebswirtschaft), but spent my weekends in Zurich testing the latest radar detector on one of the many speed traps, peppered all over the city. In between we'd be gawking at the latest Rinspeed creations. Sick, I know, and never grew up...

To my shame I have to admit I'm actually from Uster, the town in which Zellweger's headquarters and engineering department is located. For those who don't know: Zellweger are the friendly folks who make all the speed trap units based on radar technology (basically everything except laser instant-on guns).

Andreas,

Zürich: What a wonderful city! Have been there at the ETH for several congresses when I was still studying!
Typically the technicians and engineers have been remotely moved to Hnggerberg while the rest of the ETH has such a nice location overviewing the lake (and nice female students of university of Zürich near by!).
In which part of the city did you live?

Jens,

my German has to be right, after all it is my mother language. Well, almost: I'm Swiss from the suburbs of Zurich. Hence Rinspeed spoiled me for life and Zehnder, Koenig, Hamann and Becker are my gods. Pininfarina and Bertone only their mere servants...

Jens, no worries, no offense taken. Wir sind ja unter Freunden...

Ralph, not totally sure on this, but I think Ferraris in Germany/Europe had Blaupunkt radios, so that part wouldn't be so unoriginal.

I forgot to mention the source of the picture, it is from a Koenig brochure from the eighties. Also known in my home as 'the Bible'.
:-)

Unfortunately I can't find any numbers on what the original kit for the BBi cost. Knowing Koenig I would assume it went into the ten thousands of Deutschmarks. So if you're perverted enough, you could buy the Fiero, strip it of the Koenig kit and attach those panels to your 512 BBi. You would get a bargain, that I'm quite certain.

Your friends would also have you delivered to the funny farm...

It's a good thing the rear suspension is off a 1988 fiero. The damn 86's were squirly. For that reason alone, I think I'll buy it.

Andreas,

Mea culpa maxima! I ment that if you recognise the kit car at ebay as a Knig its just one more proof how Knig spoils Pininfarina designs.
Of course its everybodies personal preference/taste whether they like extremely wide cars or cars with virtually dozens of additional front/rear spoilers etc.
It was absolutely no offense ment with my post.
Variety is the spice of life, I guess!!! :-)

The Blaupunkt radio really brings out the Euro-Flavor thing. Did RE ever put a German Radio in his cars ? Of course he could have put a Pioneer
Radio with equalizer in the thing and made it a little more original.

The interior does not flow very well though ? Lets see what we have:

1. A custom Zillion dollar hand-made wood panel, 2. Blaupunkt German Radio,
3. GM airconditioner control panel ( Pontiac Fiero era ) ? + GM door handles
4. gauges that seem out of place.
5. Auto Zone or Wal Mart Ferrari steering wheel.

I probably also missed a few other items.

Does the poor fool that payed 60K have any idea
what you can purchase for that kind of money ?

Only one question ? Will it beat a Supra ?

And those lawn mower gauges need to go. That
will really draw in the bidders to this rare
1 in 10 collectable.

Obviously it is pointless to argue about taste or the lack thereof, but you gotta admit, that this Fiero is a pretty good replica of a Koenig version of a 512BBi:Upload

At least on the outside. On the inside the Fiero has trouble matching the Koenig just as a real 512BBi would:

650 HP twin turbo
0-60 mph in 4.0 sec
topspeed of 330 km/h

I like it (the real thing, not the Fiero), but I never claimed to have much taste (see my profile)...

I have to say I like it from the outside. That does look like one of the Koenigs from the late eighties.

I think it needs to have FAKE Pantera badging and A Woody badge on the interior. Interior reminds me of a 1974 Torino station wagon.

Ferrari does not even need to be mentioned.

It is an Aldino (one-word) kit, but it wasn't designed by anyone remotely related to Ferrari (feign shock now). It's actually a "prized" kit and was recently re-introduced.

Looks like a 512BBi got drunk one night and slept with a Countach 5000s. For $60k you can buy a 348 Spider, a 250GTE, a mediocre 512BBi and a whole lot of toyta Supras to sup up. Hell, give me $60k and I'll buy a sailboat in Mexico and retire to giving drunk rich americans sail boat tours.

There is enough wood in there to redo the Texas A&M bonfire. I wonder if you get a case of Old English furniture polish if you buy the car? This is one Allan can use to compare numbers on. Probably 0-60 mph in about 42 seconds with all the extra plastic and wood used here.
