Thanks all! When I suggested the attorney way the seller suggested he send me the title and I'll wire the funds within 24 hours. Sounds OK with me even if he then has the car and the money until the car is picked up. This bank check fraud makes it really hard to buy stuff now. When I sold my car the seller faxed me a copy of the check and contact info for his bank so that I could verify the they did indeed issue the check and I thought that was a good idea to prevent getting a fraudelent check. Thanks again. Seems this is working out.. /Peter |

When I did it, I used www.escrow.com as the holder of the funds. |

as for the cashiers check: I can understand since I have a check sitting on my desk that is "counterfeit" and was supposed to pay for a car as well as some "extra cash" for a third party. I suspected this though and the check looked funky. All you out there beware!!!!

If you do not mind the car sitting at the Seller's house for short time, you can wire funds directly into the Seller's bank account. If you set the wire up the night before then the Seller's bank would have confirmation by 11:00 AM and the transport company could p/u the car and title. Short of a 3rd Party escrow holder, it is the old who takes the risk, buyer or seler. I have bought several cars that way, never been burned, but it is a matter of trust, and CYA. |

Peter, you can have the money deposited with an attorney in Florida into his trust account and when the seller presents the title the attorney releases the funds to him. You can even use the guys attorney. Cost is minimal. I have done that on several occasions.

I'm slightly baffled. I'm buying a car in Florida and having it shipped up here in Boston and the buyer has accepted a downpayment. The deal was that the driver of the car shipment company would hand over a bank check and the seller would sign and hand over the title. However, now he will not accept payment via a cashiers or a bank check which I can to some extent understand. I recently sold my 86 328GTS and in my trusting way did accept a bank check but that's probably just me.. Now, since there is such a wealth of knowledge out there in Ferrariland, what are my options? Anyone been there done this? No, the driver will NOT carry cash ;-) Thanks for all suggestions /Peter |
