I use 2 extinguishers.

Bolting under the seat is a problem in a spider because of the sliding seats during roof operation.

I have one next to the drivers seat and it stays in place by itself, even through hard driving it has never moved! I also mounted one in the trunk. In a 355 there are screws that hold the side curtains. Remove two screws, mount it, replace screws. Fits perfectly. See photo:

PS - Not acceptable for racing..but perfect for a daily driver.

No matter where you place the fire extinguisher, just make sure you have one in the car and ,make sure it is the correct one. I think Halon is the way to go. Just yesterday morning, I got a call from a friend that was in Montreal for the weekend. He has been foolishly driving his 355 for a couple of weeks with a little oil leak and the smell of gas. Well you can guess what happened! He finally arranged for a flatbed to take the car to the closest dealer that he knew of; he lives in Vermont. The flatbed gets to his location and the tow hook on the front bumper does NOT hold and it rolls back but luckily he is in the car and puts on the brakes to stop it from rolling too far. So then he decides to drive the car onto the flatbed with NO hook. Whatever happened at this point is unknown, but the car caught fire in the engine compartment and also burnt his convertible top. He had NO fire extinguisher. He called for help on his cell phone and had to wait a long 5 minutes before help arrived.
Moral of the story: carry an extinguisher! You may also be able to help someone else in a situation like this.

Mondial installation...With direction from Mike Charness, I made my own bracket out of aluminum stock and some screws (instead of welding)for under $5. The bracket is almost entirely hidden by the extinguisher and the seat itself (when moved forward). You don't have to worry about rear legroom in a 360! Extinguisher is 2.5lb. chrome. $45 on Ebay.Upload

Jim E, no problem, I have a few sitting around that need to be finished and one can be yours.

Mitchell, you can have it either in front of the seat (I'll have to take measurements first, since the GT4 is different than the GTB/S), or have it beside the driver's seat like I have (the pic is here).

Guys send me an email: [email protected]

I saw a built-in system being sold for $ 350.

Defeats the purpose of being able to help someone else though.

Here is the pic of the extinguisher mounted in front of the passenger seat. The bracket allows traversing with the seat.

In addition to my "mounted" Halon extinguisher, when I'm not on the track I keep a small regular ABC extinguisher tucked upright just behind the driver seat at the door pilar (it sits there nicely next to where the targa stores). That way, if I'm out and about and I happen to see someone with a fire, I can still help without using my Halon unit.

Mine is attached to the front of the passenger seat with a quick release lever. Makes moving the
passenger seat forward/backward a pain but is worth it.

Trunk. Better than nothing. I actually have a 2.5lb bolted in front of the passenger seat, and a larger one in the trunk. Use the small one to fight my way to the bigger one. :-)

Paul, I've only made units that fit the 308, 328 and 348 specifically, since those all use the same seat rail dimensions, though they may also fit the early TR's. I've never tried to fit one to a 360 or 355.

Paul: If your 360 is like mine there are bracket mounting holes under the rug in the top left hand side of the passenger footwell. I have my factory unit mounted there. They also come with a matching leather sleeve-pretty neat.

Hi Guys
In the 355 spider its difficult to find an appropriate spot because the power top seat adjustment feature that moves the seats forward. I built an aluminum bracket for mounting a 2.5 lb in front of the seats. Unfortunately it requires removal of the seat and installation of two washers in order for the seat to traverse properly and not hit the rear mounting bolt, due to its slightly different angle with the new bracket installed.

The extinguisher bracket is also so close to the carpet that the installation of furniture glides prevents the carpet from premature wear.

Tonight I will take a few pics and post them. I have the drawings and if enough folks are interested can have the laser cutters make a few, dont know what the price will be but will have them quoted.

Peter Rychel is the guy to hit up. He made me four of them for our local club here in Seattle. He modified it slightly and made holes instead of slots for the bolts. He felt this would hold better in the event of a crash. These were nicely cut from aluminum (no welds). All we had to do was drill them for our extinguisher bracket, do some final finish sanding and paint.

I have suggested to Peter that he make a bunch up and sell them on Ebay or to Chat members....What do you guys think is a fair price for them? $20 plus shipping? $25?

Peter? You listening? :-)

Mitchell, that's fine for everyday use, but wouldn't be acceptable if you ever track your car.

Martin, the "right way" is to not have to drill any holes! Several people use the bracket design shown at the link that "Concorde" posted, at www.TradeTutor.com/raceprep/

The fastest way to mount one is by using wire straps in black and tie it to the seat adjustment bracket on the passenger side seat. Meaning the mounting bracket for the extinguisher not the actual bottle!

The right way would be to find a nice spot in the passneger foot compartment and srew it to the side wall or center tunnel wall.

I have heard 2 people say I should carry a fire extinguisher in my 355.

What size extinguisher do guys/girls carry?

Where do you put it in the car?

Do any of you have pictures?

Where should I get one?

Mario
