My 1st nice car was a new '78 Firebird w/ T-roofs. Had the car 1 month, someone kicked in driver's door. Car got keyed a month after that and finally someone stole both side view mirrors. All within 4 months of ownership. I traded the car at the 6 month mark for a new '79 Firebird w/ T-roofs and nothing happen to the new car.

Danny, I agree with you in that cars aren't jinxed, some are only better than others. But a lot of the time we, the owners, are the jinx factor involved here.

I thought my current 348 was jinxed with the all dreaded check engine 1/4 light. I finally got it fixed. It took a lot of time, money and patience. Now after 1 year and all the headaches, I must say it was worth it.

I personally believe cars are not jinxed. I believe wrong choices are made that make it seem like they are jinxed.

Najib, Sorry that happened to you. There are those bastards out there though.

Parked on the street in front of my house. In London, England very few of us can afford the luxury of 2/3 garages with the prices of houses being what they are.

Red 318i bought new in 1985. Was broken into twice in the first 6 months of ownership and had the stereo and graphic equaliser stolen. Thief ripped the cables out and unknown to me the cable from the starter (male to female clip) was accidentally loosened just enough during the burglary so that on cold days it would not make contact and the car would be dead. Murphy's law - never had the problem in the garage.

Next time had alarm installed so they sprayed blue paint on the car out of spite.

Was driving on the highway and had a lorry driver punch out his shattered windscreen which landed straight on the beautiful nearly new red car. Painted by BMW dealer to remove all the glass chip marks. Dealer used sub-standard paint. Red hood turns pink after 6 months.

Was run into when parked in a near empty car park. Finally sold car and got rid of jinx.

A little off the subject but my cousin and I were in high school and he had a real nice Plymouth which he had saved for and bought. One day he came to my house and his turn signals weren't working. So I'm going to solve the problem. I look over the wiring and across the front of the radiator there was a bar with a wire that was frayed and a metal clip was holding it. Knowing that was the problem[elec. short] I took my screwdriver to remove the clip. Next thing I knew I was holding the screwdriver that went through the radiator and water was pouring out.

William, I just read your comments again on what happened to your 633 CSI. Man, I think that car was possessed by some evil demon. That is truly one for the books.

Another, goof comes to mind. While I was going to college I worked for a guy who owned a Auto - Truck, repair shop. One day he had his brand new Chev. Caprice on the rack changing the oil. People kept coming out into the garage and asking him questions. Finally I heard him say "hell no" as he slammed the hood with the buldge[dent] of the oil cap up through the hood. We looked at each other in shock and with his face turning red I slowly walked away as he began screaming.

It seems some cars are jinxed.

However, the brother of a former best friend seemed to constantly have "accidents" to get attention.

Sometimes there can be more to it.

Magoo,
your story reminds me of 2 other situations.'79 took delivery of the Aston Vantage drove it into the garage was so proud of my $55k baby (mucho dinero for '79) lit a monte cristo #2 and somehow while walking around the car the cigar in my fat mouth I nudged my head foward and burnt a hole in the aluminum roof!
Last week took a piece out of the front bumper of the new M3-ran to the dealer to get t-up;made a botch job of it then took it to my body guy who made it perfect in 1 hr.
My wife says if I didn't have these cars to screw up I'd have too much spare time on my hands.

Now let me share some real stupidity with you guys. I had a picture perfect 560 SL all orig. paint. It had a small chip on the left rear 1/4 panel about the size of a pencil point. I couldn't have that it has to be perfect. So I get my can of paint, a small touch up brush and proceed to touch up the spot. With the can of paint in one hand and the brush in the other I concentrate on the chip and tip the can and pour the paint down over the 1/4 panel. The chip touch up looked great. The panel was a disaster. This is not over, I am somewhat upset to say the least, so I get in the car, slightly reving the engine because I am pissed, back it out of the garage and the high pressure hose on the A/C blows off and puts a big dent in the L/Frt. fender. Need I say more? Guys don't be afraid to admit it we've all been there.

Thanks Martin, Actually your situation brought it to mind with one problem after another. It is interesting to see how many have had the problem. I think William is correct, the word is spelled "Jinxed" not as I have it Jynxed.

Martin, that is typical Lotus. Use a 2 pass radiator in a very closed environment, not much ventilation underneath the car huh?

One afternoon in '76 after having a few too many I saw a new yellow Lotus Esprit in the window of Zumbach.I was driving my '74 3.0 CSL and without even test driving the Lotus I traded that gem of a Bimmer for this LOCUST!
Drove it 30 mi home to Westchester and it overheated as I pulled in to my garage.Towed back to dealer found nothing wrong so home again and as I pulled in again it overheated.Back again --new radiator 30 mi home yopp overheated. This car had a range of 30 mi, I hated it and myself for trading in the BMW.3 wks later traded it on a 911 and took the proverbial bath.
Good topic Magoo.

Back in 1989, I had an 1980 BMW 633 csi that I thought was the deal of the year. One week after ownership the little problems stated to happen. From window motors to the fuse box I was basically restoring the car & building it up for show. I was even upgrading the suspension system to bilsteins. I wanted a track car I learned that have nice autos can really piss off other people. When I lived in a apartment in North Arlington, TX. I would have anything door dings, deep scratches carved into my paint, a drunk backing into my car then taking off, & my tires slashed by my psycho ex girlfriend. I thought that the car was really jinxed. Not until May of 1995, Ft Worth,TX had the worst hail storm in history. I had just gotten off work, got some gas started to drive home on Camp Bowie My pride & joy was thrashed with over $10,000 worth of hail damage. I was trapped in my car at a stop light & only to see other people panic by honking like crazy & trying to out drive the falling hail. I had the windshield glass all over me, when the storm ended. I noticed that my legs were bleeding. The 6 was totaled out by my insurance company & that was the end of her. That
truly was the car from hell.

We had the family car (Mercury Topaz) blessed by a priest (upon my Grandma's request)... we had eight accidents in that car. Seven were none of our fault, mostly rear-enders and two hit-and-runs. The last one I totalled it, head-on collision... while my parents were away on vacation.... L Remember that scene in Risky Business with Tom Cruise, when the Porsche rolled into the lake? Or Ferris Bueller's Day Off when the California rolled out of the back of the garage? Did you get a good look at the expressions on their faces after seeing those cars destroyed? That was me with that head-on. I walked away, but my life has never been the same after that...

1988 Honda Accord LXi. Nice car.

I got rear-ended after 1 week of ownership. Second rear-ended incident 2 weeks after getting the car back from the body shop.

Brake failure and plow into a small truck stopped at light (minimal body damage).

Battery failure. This happened all the time.

Large, jacked-up truck backed out of my office parking lot (it's one direction) right into my Honda. Hood was totally crumbled because the truck bumper landed right on top of it. The woman drove off and I followed her in the Honda. I caught up to her and found out she didn't have insurance and the truck belonged to her boyfriend. I got her info and her boyfriend's info and forwarded to my insurance co.. Wouldn't you know it, this couple skipped town and it took the insurance co. several months to track them down and resolved the matter.

All these things happened within the first 6 months of ownership.
