To my way of thinking, many Ferraris look their best in a color other than red. On some, such as the Lusso, it detracts from the sensuous lines. On other larger, more luxurious models, it looks too garish. Check out my two sites, www.madenterprise.com and click on my 'Gallery', the other is www.500superfast.com. Many of you will agree, I am sure. |

David. Your black 348 is absolutely stunning. I have to admit that before I ever saw a 348 in person, I acquired a 1/18th scale model of a (sorry) "red" one, and I have to admit to you that I wasn't exactly enamored with the car(body style, shape or color). But I have since seen the real thing both at an exotic car repair shop locally as well as a recent car show. I am totally convinced that the 348 is absolutely awesome for real and that these models simply do not do the car justice. This picture of your "black is beautiful" version is testament to the fact of the true 3rd dimension these cars possess that is not as evident in model form in my totally unbiased opinion of course. |

A Ferrari is a beautiful machine regardless of the colour ! I love red on the older 2 seater GT cars, but the 2+2's have a more sophisticated air when in darker or metalic colours other then red. |

I don't think you guys can ever find out "how many -- what color", but it's interesting to review the color make-up of the 200+ Fs listed on Edvar's site: http://red-headed.com/ferrarilist/stats.htm |

I am one of the non-conformists out there with a non-red F car. How can I find out how many cars for that year were produced in my colour for the model I drive? |

Like William said, this is silly! For my part, I personally dislike the red. I like a Ferrari in any color as long as I don't have to pay for it. My Testarossa is Black/Tan (a gorgeous combination IMHO). As far as the name meaning "Red Head", I believe they were talking about the heads between its legs! Color is as personal as what car you ultimately end up getting. Have fun, be happy! |

A list of international racing colours. Belgium Yellow Canada Red with a white stripe Germany Silver Finland White with blue latin cross France Blue GB Green Holland Orange Italy Red Spain Yellow and red Sweden Yellow and blue with three blue stripes USA White and blue And dont forget the Gulf- Martini- Newman-Haas, Petronas- Marlboro, JPS- etc-paintings. I saw a Lotus Europa in JPS-painting, very nice. Another question is which colour is the best looking on specific design. That could be any colour, even on a Ferrari. But for historical reasons, I prefer red and I have those SF-shields on my fenders for the same reason, even if my 328 is a production car. I admit that Ferraris do look good ín other colours than red. Ciao Peter |

Does anyone know what percentage of Ferraris are red including all the race and street ones? |

One thought I had from an earlier thread: If one likes a different Ferrari color and cannot find it, therefore has the Ferrari painted to the standard Ferrari color he likes, how does that affect resale value? |

That 348 looks great!! Congratulations. The "red" in Testarossa refers to the cylinder heads of the engine, not color of the cars body. Ernesto |

I never met a Ferrari I didn't like - regardless of color - I just like some more than others! At first I wanted a red car, but when I saw the Sera blue/Tan color (which I bought) I really fell in love with it. In a way I feel the red is a bit too much a "look at me" color - which goes against my personality. Although some would suggest that anyone who doesn't want to stand out shouldn't be driving a Ferrari! ...fair enough! Those in the "know" suggest that a color other than red is worth about 10% less. What do you guys think about that? |

my 308QV & 512TR r black, the 512TR race car will be silver. I was originally looking for a 512TR in azzuro blue, sort of a very light silvery blue, its just gorgeous |

Najib, What you mentioned about the red cars being originally painted yellow was the color of the primer sealer used prior to the final color coat. |

I like red, every Ferrari I get will be red. Therefore I must be shallow and have no clue what I'm talking about....Some people just like red cause it has history and is a hot color for a sports car plain and simple. |

While used in most race cars, red was not the most used color for Ferrari road cars until the mid 1970s. Just look at magazine tests from that time period. |

Definitely a retardard concept. I have a red car because I like red. Plain and simple. Buy the color you want and drive happily. |

As far as I am concerned William is 100 percent correct. It should be noted that Pinnfarina has stated that his designs look best in the color of metal, silver or gray. Is it still a "no-no"? |

Its 100% Silly, from the 50s through till the late 70s race Ferraris came in all colors. Red was the most popular but u cant seriously say a 250 GTO or 330 P4 or 512M in silver, blue, yellow, white or green is a lesser car This trash is spouted by people who dont have a clue & by dealers who find it easier to sell red cars |

I view a red Ferrari as such a cliche that I don't think I will ever own a red Ferrari. There are just too many of them out there in that color. Ernesto |

For me I think red is the best color for a Ferrari. That being said I think they also look fantastic in black, yellow and silver. I know that may seem wishy washy but for me its red but when I see one in another color my jaw still drops. |

Red is the competition/racing colour of Italy. All racing Alfas, Maseratis etc and Ferraris were painted in some kind of red colour, at least if the were run by an Italian team. With such a racing heritage those great marques have it is common that you want your production car painted red. Therefore a lot of Italian cars are red. Yellow is the colour of the Italian town Modena. The yellow on the SF-shield symbolise Modena as hometown of Ferrari. Silver is the racing colour for Germany, which, from my point of view is a big NO-NO-colour on an Italian car unless you are a German competing with the car. (British Racing) Green is the colour of UK. Nobody used #13 on theirs racing cars for obvious reasons until a race in Germany (I'm not sure but I think it was there) when a British driver was ordered to use #13 (Ordnung muss sein). To compensate this the British driver painted his car green, which was considered as a "luck-colour". I have owned 7 Italian cars, 5 red, 1 blue and 1 silver (bought it for about 10 cent, couldnt complain on the colour) Ciao Peter |

Red is the dominent color and most people seem to think the only color you can get is red. I do like some of the other colors on some models, but the term "resale red" has merit. |

There was a previous thread on this site which suggested, not without justification, that all red Ferraris are originally painted yellow and that the original colours of Modena are yellow. Red was a colour given to Ferrari for their F1 and other racing cars. Be that as it may, I for one believe that most of the older generation Ferraris and even up to the 355 looked better in red than in any other colour (no offence to those guys with cars in other colours). Those who do buy other colour do so for individuality or they have loads of money (different colour for each day of the week). The current models 360, 550 and 456 look much better in other colour like silver (titanium), yellow or even black. |

Will you please comment this subject. I have heard this sentence from many people. Is it just because of the racing history of ferrari? Owners of non red Ferraris, do you feel discriminated or hear any unpleasant comments from strangers? |
