Mitchel;

We must have about 10 Mini's running around here at BMW NA including a few S model's which is real hot. We also have a few of the new 7's. Some of the dealers, and the marketing guy's have been driving them since the spring.

OK, this is a crazy siting. I was in the 308 a few days ago, and was on Spalding Drive in Atlanta (a very posh, upper scale area). I came up over a hill, and I passed a new red Mini with a white top. He drove right by me, and we both caught each others eyes and gave thumbs up. How does someone get one in here so early?? They just went on sale in Europe a few weeks ago, right?

I think I saw the new maserati today - is it possible? Its funny I saw it right where Bret saw the 360. - it also had the white plastic on it. It was convertible with the brownish pearl paint. nice. There must be a FNA employee driving these cars around

Yesterday I was going up the Palisades PKWY (FNA is right off of it in Englewood Cliffs) and I saw a white (really black) 360 going the other way. Cool thing about it though was that it was still wrapped in that white plastic film stuff that the put all over the car for shipping. You could see where they cut the plastic off of the vents, lights, and all. It looked like an urban camo 360 doing about 60mph down the highway.

Yesterday, after detailing my wife's Benz S500 I took it out for spin and on the way back home I saw a 94 Ferrari 348 Spider white in opposite direction on my street. Only the second Ferrari siting other than mine on my street since I lived here.

Last week I saw a 90's tr Red pulling out of the Jack in the Box drive thru then jumping on 101 North in a big hurry.

Drove the Mondial t down to Santa Monica for a getaway Jan 3 - 6 and saw:

1 tr Black
2 360 Spiders (1 silver 1 looked sky blue, got a thumbs up!)
1 360 Coupe silver/red(got a honk and a honk back. Cool)
1 355 Spider yellow/black
1 Aston Martin Silver/Red. Parked next to me in the Loew's garage. New model with the hood cut- outs. Could see some nice polished aluminum hardware in there.

Considering I'm only 2 hours from DC and PHL, and 3 hours from NYC, absolutely nothing around here for at least a year. And not for lack of looking. Central PA is a big black hole with zero exotics on the road and 50% trailer trucks/Bubba pickups. The rest are soccer mom SUVs and minivans. I have a view of I-81 from my office and the most interesting thing I've seen in the last month are NYC subway cars heading south on lowboys.

I saw a yellow Diablo SV on the way home the other night. Driving along in pretty heavy traffic..

Yesterday on the way home a red 355 went by the opposite direction on the freeway. Then about two miles down the road got passed by a Black Viper RT with some nice chrome rimes. Was in my truck at the time. Gotta get the rims on my car chromed, really enhances the look. OH yeah and about two, no no, three weeks ago was in my 348 waiting for a left turn light, glanced in my mirror, low and behold right behind me was an Austin Martin. Ah yes the joys of car spotting.

Saturday, saw a beautiful Yellow TR in BobD's neighborhood Southlake. I don't get as excited anymore seeing 360's, they're the most common Ferrari I see on the road (maybe 1-2 a week in Dallas). It's the TR's and especially the BB's that are rare.

Sunday, raced my RX7 down at Texas World Speedway. There was a 355 Challenge in the race and there was a 456 with baby seat parked in front of his garage.

It was beautiful in Atlanta yesterday, so there I was on GA400 South in the 308, going about 75 mph. Got harrased by some dummy in a moroned-up Acura, so I smoked his ass then settled back down to 75 in the right lane. Then the radar chirped a few times, I maintained my speed, then I saw him.
A Georgia State Patrol, with his signature blue/gray Crown Vic, that can stop anyones heart. Especially someones in a Ferrari and you know damn well he is looking right at you. "I didn't do anything officer", I rehersed in my mind. Then I saw that he was gunning the Northward traffic. Whew, I made it again and sneaked on by.

Just over the hill about 1/4 of a mile past the Patrolman, I passed a red/tan 550 Maranello going Northbound, in mid pass...must have been going WELL over 110...right into the waiting claws of said Patrolman. I just knew it. I could not warn him, I could not flail my arms frantically, he was going too fast. :) I feel kinda bad for the 550 driver! At least he did not get me right?

Silver 550 Maranello with Scuderia Shields parked in the valet parking garage of the California Hotel here in Vegas....yikes....if I remember correctly, there was a thread here a few months ago saying how you guys/gals would never let valet service park your car.

My uncle owns a high end clothing store and I help him out on Saturdays (I get a good discount).

Much of my time is spent hanging around the front of the store seeing what cars come in.

Even in Canada in the middle of January some nice stuff came in (It was quite warm on the weekend so they left the 4x4 trucks at home)
1. 2001 Black twinner 996
2. 1999 maroon 550 Maranello, took me for a ride up the street, cool car and customer.
3. yellow 360
4. grey 1981 930

In the summer there was also an F40, but I was so busy with other customers I couldnt get a good look at it or talk to the owner.

Today in Miami Beach while on the terrace of a friend's 8th floor apartment, I saw the following driving in the middle lane of A1A (Collins Ave)

(Martin..did you catch the Lambos today?)

In order and front to back.

a chiaro blue Lamborghini Diablo
a titanium Lamborghini Diablo
a black lamborghini Diablo Roadster
a yellow Lamborghini Murcielago

5 minutes later...
a yellow Ferrari 360 coupe
a red Ferrari 360 Spider

My heart had palpitations. The Murcielago was not as disappointing in a real life on the road appearance. But in my opinion, the Diablo has to be the sexiest and meanest looking machine
on the road and seeing them reiterated why it's my favorite car of all time. When I saw the 360s after the Lambo parade, my reaction was "eh, not bad". :)

It was a sight to be seen and heard.

Toronto:
On the 400 south I followed a Lambo Diablo (Yellow) all the way to the 401 and across the 401 east at about 12:30am. He was doing next to nothing in the fast lane! Cool!

Same route saw a Aston Martin DB7

A red 360 flew by me on the 401 west like I was standing still!

Tons of 308,328's and 355's all over.

Don Valley Parkway saw a Bently Azzure...Nice!

At the drag stip I beat up on a bunch of Lotus'

Still waiting to see Nika in her yellow Ferrari!:)
I won't hold my breath though...too cold here now!

I live about 20 minutes away from a few places were people have rediculous amounts of money, i mean rediculous. In bedford I see S-class MB's like i see hondas in my town. One time i saw a bently red label and an aston v12 vantage. When i drive through greenwhich, ct i usually see something nice. One day a saw a Z8 and a 911tt. In armonk i saw a nice red testarossa driving on the road, and a F355 spider at the car detailing place. One time i was hanging out with 3 friends on some remote corner in the middle of nowhere about 5 mins from my house at like 11pm and a red 360 drove by, it was the most random thing ive ever seen. I think it was the same 360 i saw that night drive through my town that i followed for like 10 miles to hear its exhaust.

Its fun when we drive to shows in a convoy.
We had one with Police escort one day. They blocked off the roads and red lights while we were crusing by. COOL.

Its always 5-6 Lambos, Mike just sold his Vector, so no more of that, several Fs and some other fun toys.

I usually participate in two fund raising events per year. One is benefitting an islamic mosque (however you write that) to please my mechanic and the other is a cristian church, to please my detailer and to keep the balance :)

not ferrari related but about 10 years ago I was in Lichtenstein (which is a country about the size of manhattan) and I saw a 1970 Boss 302 cruise through the main town (i.e the country). That was pretty cool.

Italian exotics are not too common in the two towns I live in because there is no factory dealer(heck, there isn't even a good independent) in either town. In Wichita I see a 360 coupe and a 355 coupe regularly along with a 512TR an older TR and a 348 spider. In Tulsa I see a guy most mornings with a 360 spider. At my favorite golf course there is a 360 coupe that can be frequently sighted. In the neighborhood area is a 550 and a smattering of TT porsches, a couple of Z8's, one Lotus S4 that I have seen and more V12 benzes than you can shake a stick at. I have never seen a Lambo in Tulsa, but hear there are a couple. The best spotting grounds I have found is Naples, FL. I have seen everything imagineable there.

I have seen just about every car you can think of on the road in So Cali. F40, yes driving on the road. Plenty of Diablos and Countache's, Vipers, P-cars by the hundereds. Rolls, Bently, NSX, AC Cobras, Brabus Benz, Aston Martin, Maserati, etc. I wish I could have seen this but my brother was Soooooo lucky, he saw a Vector on the 101 fwy on the way home from clubbing in Hollywood. These have all been on the road driving.

Ah yes the joy of living in Sunny Southern California. In one day, all of them drivng on the road, I saw:

Ferrari:
1) 360
3) 348's
1) 550

2) Vipers (1 roaster, 1 GTS)

1) 911 turbo

What is even better they where all within an hour. Oh where in So Cali was I? On World famous Pacific Coast Highway going from Santa Monica passing Malibu, Zuma beach (site of Bay Watch), to my home in Oxnard. Gotta love it.

I'm always looking for exotics. Excluding car shows and get togethers (only on the road) I've seen:
Lambo Countach (black) and Diablo (white)
3 Lotus Esprits (red, 2 blacks)
2 Porsche GT2s (silver)
3 BMW Z8s (red, 2 silvers)
Mercedes everything (CLK GTR, F1, etc cause of my mom)
4 Shebly Cobras (2 blue, 1 yellow, 1 red)
2 Doloreans
Now for the Ferraris:
at least a dozen 355s
3 360s (silver, 2 reds)
1 550 (red, doing well over a 100 on the parkway)
4 308s (all red)
3 328s (red)
2 348s (1 red, 1 yellow)
2 Mondials (red)
1 500 Superfast (dark blue, as best I could tell, looked just like it)
1 unidentified old Fcar, it looked early 60s almost 250GT SWB like.
2 F50s (red, one went down my street while I was in the driveway washing the 308 and another at the gas station)
1 F40 (red)
1 456 (navy blue, this one was the coolest I've seen so far, I never thought in a million years I would see a 456 out on the road, to be quite honest I didn't think people drove them. I saw it a week ago, it was so much nicer looking in motion, made me really like the 456 which I found a little odd before).
I'm pretty sure I got them all.

What is a snow plow? I haven't seen this "rare" exotic anywhere in San Diego.

In Las Vegas I saw a 512TR in front of, where else? Starbucks!!! A 550 Maranello on the I-215 West with a pony tail guy driving. A deep green (not sure it was at night) Diablo pulling out of the street Mike Tyson lives on (as well as Wayne Newton), several 355's, 348's, and 328/308's down on Eastern Avenue. Maybe I'll see more if I hangout on the street where Italy's Special is-they are a Italian Car service center mentioned elsewhere on this site.

Actually, I forgot about one - a Lotus Elise in the Rice University parking lot. I was thinking of getting one but didn't want to worry about the conversion from Euro to US standards. Perhaps I'll have my chance when Lotus unleashes them domestically in a couple years.

I live near Ferrari of San Francisco, and sometimes use my 355 to commute into town. I always see other Ferraris (except on rainey days), usually the V8s, but someitmes the 12s. There is a TR that commutes into SF also, pretty much daily.

Given the area, Ferraris are realatively common here.

I had a 360 day last week. Was having lunch with a friend and a silver 360 drove by the restaurant. While driving home, I passed another silver 360, and at first I thought it must be the same car, but this one had it's top down! I also recently saw Deion Sanders in his Diablo, being followed by Michael Irvin in his near-ghettoed Cadillac DTS.

Except for a few meetings with Rob and BobD, I've only seen 2 other Ferraris while I was in mine.

Two days after we had 8 inches of snow, I went for a drive in the 308. During that drive last week, I saw a red 550M, 2 Vipers and that red Lotus Esprit.

A woman has a anthracite 360 coupe in my parents neighborhood. She used to have a Viper.

I live in a small central Virginia town so unfortunately, carspotting is not as exciting as in Atlanta or Houston. However, to pass the time while I'm driving on trips, I'm always looking for the most exotic or expensive car on the highway. Other than my 308, my town only has one 360 and a '97 white Lotus Esprit.
Ken (Allyn)
Posted on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 7:39 am:

I'm always on the lookout for exotics. There's a 308 and Esprit I see in my neighborhood. On the highway the occasional 550 and Mondial. I hardly ever see any Lamborghinis though. Chicagoland is not huge on exotics in general in spite of 2 Ferrari and a Lamborghini/Lotus dealer in the area. I bet no one has ever seen a Lotus Europa on the road...I never have except for my own.
Richelson (Richelson)

I am always on the look out for exotics but I never see any except in my garage. I am always hopeful. Atlanta must have a lot of them for you to see some many. That must be exciting to know you are going to see one everyday.

Hey James!
I love to watch cars!! In Atlanta, particularly north Atlanta, I see exotic and rare cars on a daily basis (as long as the sun is out!). Lets see, just last month, I saw all on GA 400 highway,
-Lambo Diablos (one red, one black, and Queen Latifas white and purple Diablo, she lives by my parents)
-Lambo Miura (red, in the fast lane probably going 100)
-Ferrari 512TR, 328s, 308s, 348s, 355s, 360s, 550s, a red 360 SPider, Mondial coupe
-3 differnt Panteras
-A slew of various Porsches
-a red Lotus everyday

I have a great time watching cars. Anyone else?

Until I read an article yesterday I never realized how big plane spotting it. Apparently these guys hang out at airports to read the registration numbers on planes, following 9-11 they have less access to airports and people are suspicious of them - suppose to be really popular in England?
James P. Smith (Tigermilk)
Posted on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 7:04 am:

There are train spotters and even plane spotters. How about car spotters? I for one get a kick out of seeing an exotic or rare auto on the road/parking lot. My only consideration is that a car can't be at a repair shop or dealer. In the last year I've seen

Houston Loop 610 West - new Aston Martin DB7
Houston B8 South - Pantera
Houston - at least 3 Deloreans, several Vipers, and NSXs
Houston Bay Area Blvd - Diablo, Lotus Esprit, Testarossa, 348, 355
My own 'hood - Porsche 550 (though I believe it's a repro)
Boston/Brookline Beacon St - Testarossa
Boston/Brookline Tappan St - beautiful 550 Barchetta (the crown jewel of my spotting!)
Boston Downtown - Ducati 996 (not a car, but still a great piece)

Sadly no Zondas, F40s (though I saw one at Ferda's in Houston, just not on the road), F50s, or the like on the list.
