I'm on Jaguar #4. Two I had in the 80's were lots of trouble, but I put 90,000 miles on a '95 XJS convertible with minimal problems - although my antenna motor did go out once also (warranty covered it) - and now I have had a 2001 XKR convertible for a year with no problems so far. It's a powerful, comfortable head-turner car. But still wishing for my first Ferrari - I visit this site on occasion for a little day-dreaming, for when I can afford 2 cars: A Ferrari and something I can still put 20,000 miles a year on. |

My mom bought an XJR over an M5 and so far it has been much more reliable than the M series BMW's. Quite fast two with the supercharged 4.0L V-8 |

My 79 XJS with a TPI Corvette 350 in it run like a bandit. 4sp auto gets me rubber off the line with 2200 RPM at 70 MPH. Over a 100K on the chassis and with front and rear aero kit it is still a looker. Now my wife just bought me an X-Type for the winters and as my daily driver. So the F car does once a week and on weekends and I share the XJS with the X-Type. Jags have always been a bargin because of the realibility but if you like toying with these cars you reap the rewards. I still wish I had my 66 E-Type. |

I just sold my 1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas, 3 years of totally reliable motoring. I loved it, so much more comfortable than my Mercedes. Pre-Ford Jags, I would stay away. |

I have owned 12 cylinder E-Types and 6 cylinder models. The 12's were a major pain in the butt, and generally, to put it bluntly, crap. Iron block and aluminum heads does not a happy union make. They blow head gaskets like Archie Bunker... The early 4.2 and 3.8 litre 6 cylinder cars were great. I have put many trouble free miles on these cars. They handle better, drive better and go faster. With E-Types, get a 1967 or earlier and its hard to go wrong engine wise. As to XJ6's, I had a '72 model that needed a top end rebuild. Instead I ordered a Johns Cars V8 converstion kit and put a 4 bolt main 350 Chevy with 4 barrell in it with a turbo 400 tranny. The kit was fantastic, all bolt in. New radiator, fan shrouds, fans, springs, engine mounts, wiring harness... They chevy looked like it had always been there when we were done. The chevy units were about 400 lbs lighter than the original stuff... thus the new springs with the kit to keep the front end from sitting too high. The car was incredible to drive. Tons more power, much smoother... a really great car. |

I learned a long time ago that if I am having dificulty repairing a car, it is usually my fault and not the car's. |

Hey Bill, I have had this car for 5 years, and it has never let me down or had an electrical failure....I know its got to be a fluke. My car has 107,000 miles on it, and it keeps going and going. The V12 is SO nice on the highway. No one I know believes me when I say its a good car!! |

Sorry guys, I just need to vent. All my friends that had V12's have been a problem child. The dealer service writer has informed me that this is one of the worst cars as for reliability. Mitchel, how long had you owned your Jag? The electronics in a 88 V12 are the most trouble. I don't mean to jinx your car, it will happen. |

I have a 95 XJ6 and it has been pretty much trouble free. It hasn't been in the shop in nearly 2 years. I'd buy another. |

I have a 88 Jag XJS V12 convertible, and its been surprisingly reliable. It just passed emissions here in Atlanta and runs great. |

I own both marques...trust me, the Jag electronics are a nightmare compared to Ferrari. (Although the windows have never stopped working in the Jag...score one for them.) - JMG |

I am having a hell of a time with a 1995 XJS V12 convertible. I just did a repaint for a customer & the stupid antenna will not go up when the radio is on, I did remove the gasket but not the antenna assembly. The antenna moter works, but not @ the relay. I did notice many 10amp blown fuses, but replacing them didn't solve the problem. The strange thing is the customer pointed this out before I tested the antenna, so I think his trying to get me to buy him a new one. The hell with that, I called the Jag dealer in Houston to find out that this car has had 3 trannys & a small phone book list of numerous repairs. Now the dealer is worried about scratching the new paint job every time its in for service. I will NEVER own a Jaguar & will charge much more for working on them! Ferraris were not this much of a problem. |
