Manu,

Eighty percent of the driving done in my 360 is just for fun with nowhere particular to go other than enjoying the car and the roads. But if you're going to do a long road trip, which can be very exciting in a Ferrari, you'd be better off with a nav system in the car...just in case.

I agree that the options can overwhelm the intended purpose of the car.

Hey Willis,

I totally agree with you mate... (especially when travelling alone) - often Ferraris DO attract the wrong kind of attention and its better to have peace of mind.....

However, what you say, implies using the car as a means of getting from A to B. Now I hate it when people leave their Ferraris in garages to rot, but I always think of driving a Ferrari as a end in itself - as opposed to a means to end which is what you imply.
I concede that this is a very unrealistic way of thinking of Ferrari use, but thats the way I see it.

Suppose, sat-nav had never been invented, we'd find ways of staying safe without it...
I definitely agree with you, on it not compromising the journey mate, but I believe that options like these are the first step on the road to options which we currently do not need but will find "necessary" in the future.

A few years back, Traction control was considered heresy amongst the Ferrari driving public.....

Its started already, but where does this optioning End.....

Manu, You gotta be realistic about it when driving these cars in unfamiliar areas especially when you're going alone. Having a nav system that give you peace of mind. It doesn't mean having a nav system will ruin any enjoyment of the trip. You could always turn it off and go at your discretion.

Like I said before, fumbling with a map is not fun. The journey might be important but not getting to the destination (safely) would be stupid.

I wouldn't add anything else in a Ferrari though.

I did a custom installation of a Magellan Nav in my Porsche. It comes in handy sometimes. I haven't put one in my 550 yet though.Upload

This car is no bargain once the costs of conversion and shipping are taken into account (as well as the delays, time, and hassle), given that used 550's in the U.S. market have declined significantly in price within the past year or so. Even if you save 20k over the comparable cost of a U.S. car, is it worth the trouble?

Right on Ernesto....

Swap the stereo for a proper exhaust system too.
No soundproofing, no need for a heater - just use the heatsoak from the engine!! - buckets instead of heavy leather seats.

Apparently the seats in a 550 have 18 motors to power them around.... (yes 18! that's not a typo).
No wander the car weighs 1700kg.

In a Ferrari, the journey is more important than reaching the destination - with this in mind, why would you want sat-nav.....

Please, no NAV system, cruise control, cup holders, big screen multi-function radio, built-in cellphone, heated seats, or other similar items in my Ferrari. If I wanted that, I would get a BMW, MB, or Porsche.

I also think the F-car should be a daily driver, I just would never have NAV in mine. Is the price really that low for a Euro car?

I'd get a nav system for my 360 too if it were an option when I ordered it. Better than fumbling around with a stupid paper map when going to new places. Safer too.

just 'cuz it's a sports car doesn't mean you can't drive it "regular" too!

my daily driver is a 996TT. the same car i bring to the track. i don't have a nav in it, but that's only 'cuz PAG's factory nav offering stinks, otherwise i'd have gotten it.

plently fo people use their 550s as daily drivers.

Why would anyone put a navigation system in a sports car? Price seems suspect to me, maybe he meant to list it in GBP($191,970).

Is this for real? What does a 2001 550 usually sell for?
