The BMW 3 series rear axles are skinnier - might look the same but are not |

Jerry: If it's still on the car, rotate the wheel and watch the relationship of the shaft to the CV housing. If it is still good inside, the shaft will maintain a steady angle as it exits the joint. If it is bad, the shaft will jump around (the boot will change deflection too) as the balls stick and release in the worn grooves in the joint. Noisy CV joints are a symptom usually found on FWD cars - particularly at extreme deflection angles. As the balls bind and release, they will make a lot of noise. Just stand in the parking lot of any large mall and listen to the cars as they turn into and out of the lanes using lots of steering lock. |

What is a symptom of a bad CV joint? Is it just noisy? |

308 CV joints should be close to 3 series BMW. I know the boots are the same - not sure about the splines as I have never had to replace one. Before buying new ones, completely disassemble and clean your old joints and check to make sure the surface hardening hasn't been worn through. You'll see shine where the balls have been working, but if they had grease in them, there shouldn't have been any damage. If the condition is OK, repack with moly grease (the really gooey black stuff) and install new boots. They should be good to go. |

Hi Lobro web site is http://www.gkndrivetech.com/lobro.htm. Since I just happen to have the CV joints out of my car, I measured them. According to the current catalog they appear to be Type 174, joint size 15. The only thing that is not an exact match is the spline diameter. It could well be that these would match a Porsche, MB or BMW. VW uses 100mm diameter CV's. I am not looking for replacements but the above might help the search for those who do.

All of the CV joints are'nt the same. There is some crossover, 308 might be Porsche 930 Turbo, but I don't remember for sure. But with so many After Market Ferrari Vendors these days you should be able to get a very decent price from one of them. |

Are all of these Lobro joints the same? I've seen them advertised in the Demon Tweeks catalogue and they're not specifically listed for any particular make and model... |

I am looking at a possible replacement of one of my CV joints. Are they rebuildable or do I need to purchase a new one. Any info would be appreciated. |
