Many 308 owners complains how difficult it is to chance the plugs in the forward bank. Do not try to work over the engine, just work tru the gap between the the lid and the roof. In mine there lots of space, 2 plugs from left and 2 plugs from wright. ( 308 GTSi ) |

On my '78 308 GTB, 1. I run Castrol 20W50 for the hot Texas heat. 2. I did mine last week. Wasn't as bad as I thought. The forward bank was obviously tougher than the rear, but the key is patience. The toughest one was the forward plug towards the left of the car. If you got the toolkit with the car, the included spark plug wrench is ideal. Make sure you put anti-seize compound on the new plugs. 3. Can't remember about the tach, but the speedo reads above 0. 4. I just changed my brakes (forward at least). I actually found pads locally. The best thing to do is call around and see if the parts stores can cross reference the brake pads. I came across the following front/rear combinations in my search for pads: Metal Master D112M/D102M, Performance Friction 45Z/31Z, Porterfield AP11/AP2. Use those numbers as the baseline and look for a comparable pad. Ebay also is a source for pads. 5. ferrari.jenkins.org/books/ - look there for online manuals for the GT4, 308QV, parts for 308 GTB (part's manual is actually good as a service guide since it shows top-level assembly drawings). Also keep www.expensivecar.com and home.att.net/~ferrari/308faq1.htm bookmarked. |

Hi Scott, check ebay.com , they always have manuals for sale, use a snap-on plug socket with the universal attached (all in one), they work great on these cars, front bank is a little tricky ,just take your time, don't forget to never-sieze the threads before installing them, as for Oil , use regular 20w50, good brand name, syn oil brings out a lot of leaks , hope that helps...Ang |

Peter gave you all the right answers. The question about the break pads, well there are several out there that have knock offs. I am not sure. There were some topics about that as well. I think William has some great answers about that! In your owners manual is tells you the right break pads with a two letter code. This is the hardness/softness of the compound and that will determine what should be on your car, not just the fit! |

1) I agree with Peter 2) There was a recent post about changing spark plugs .... check it out, it's v useful 3) Same here, 10mph and 500rpm. I've found that the faster I go, the more accurate (against a modern pace car) the speedo gets ... 40mph registers as 45 on my car, 60mph as 62 and 80mph as 81mph. 5) There was no workshop manual for the GTB/GTS's but the GT4 manual (available for download online from various places) is near enough when it comes to the mechanics. |

I recommend using the keyword search on this site. I know that there have been discussions on most of the questions that you are asking. And the info is pretty useful so check it out. David (I'd give you links but I'm lazy) |

1) Sythetic, but if your car leaks alot, that's money down the drain. If so, convetional 20W50 will do. 2) My GT4 has better access to the front plugs, so no special tricks for me. But I still have to remove the air-box though. 3) Both of my needles sit above the zero mark (10mph/500RPM) 4) ? 5) I got mine (repros) from Italian Car Parts in OR. Others here will suggest different places |

I've just recently acquired my first Ferrari. She's a 1982 308 GTSi with 24,000 miles. She's barely been driven a 1,000 miles in the last 8 years, so needless to say I've got my hands full of neglect problems. But I'm still in love with her. I've read almost every post from you guys for the last month or so and I can't tell you how helpfull it is to read what you guys have written. I do still have some questions though, so here it goes... 1. Syn oil or reg, whats better? 2. Does anyone know the best way to change the spark plugs, it looks like it's gonna take some magic? 3. Does anyones Tach and Speedometer read way above zero when the car isn't even on? 4.Where can I find brake pads? 5. Whats up with trying to find a shop manual? If anyone could post and shed a little light on my existing problems it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Scott |
