My 89 348 has been a brilliant car. I have had it for 13 years and have done alot of performance upgrades to it. The double or single clutch issue is a non issue. The big upgrade is the alternator. If you have any questions for a long time 348 owner...feel free to email |

John, I was lucky enough to get my F with a copy of all invoices together with the service book. That's the best way to know what happened to the car. Good luck and keep us informed. |

Thanks guys, So will I see reference in the service history. I have not seen a Ferrari service record before but previous service records on other vehichles only seem to have stamps for completion of the work. Is this information on a car's specific history relating to service upgrades only available from a Ferrari maintenance database ? |

The alternator and clutch mods are the two big ones. Both are costly to upgrade with dealer parts. Thankfully, my 91 TS has both updates! :-) |

Philips right but also make sure to have the car fully inspected by a reputable dealer. |

John, The answer is in your question: buy a post 20/08/93 car! I am kidding but I think that the important point is to buy a car that has been well maintained by a decent F dealer. I purchased mine two years ago (a 03/1992 ts348) and from the history I got most of the upgrades you mentioned were done. So no panic, look to the history and you gonna be a happy man like I am. Good search. |

Hi Guys, I have been lurking on this site for about 18 months now, and in a couple of months I should be in a position to hunt for a 348TS. I know the ideal is to buy the latest model one can afford, but when viewing a particular car, I am a little apprehensive as to understand which cars have had what upgrades done on them. So question #1. What documentation should I see to identify what upgrades have been completed. ? question #2 - a difficult one. Does anyone know what chassis numbers the following upgrades/service bulletins where applied to during normal production. 30-13 30/05/91 Differential Side Seal Production Improvement 80-48 30/05/91 Bosch Starter Motor changed to Nippon Production Improvement 10-31 10/10/91 Cam Seal Housing Modification Reduced Oil Leakage 21-12 10/10/91 Single-Plate Clutch Production Improvement 60-22 10/10/91 New Alignment Specs Improved Handling 60-23 10/10/91 Front Suspension Shocks & Springs Production Improvement 90-15 10/10/91 Front Bonnet Grill Warpage Improved Mounting 10-34 11/03/92 Front Timing Bearing Reduced Noise 60-24 01/06/92 Rear A-Arm Fix Point Height Reduction Production Improvement 80-54 01/06/92 Delco Alternator Changed to Nippon Production Improvement 90-18 18/08/92 Door Grills Improved Strength 80-55 24/08/92 Oil Sump Tank Ground Strap Improved Gauge Operation 10-36 18/08/93 Harmonic Balancer replacement Reduced Weight 21-15 20/08/93 Clutch Thrust Bearing / Slave Production Improvement I believe the move to Motronic v2.7 came in at chassis no. 86407. What are the MUST HAVE upgrades - alternator clutch, suspension ? I want to be able to thoroughly check a prospective car over before getting a PPI. Thanks for you help. John (UK) |
