Dr. I, if it's running hot try bleeding the radiator, could have excessive air trapped. The heat range of the plugs won't cause backfiring..pull the Distrib Cap & check for moisture, oil or dirty electrodes, then ohm the wires to make sure they are good... Do you have the Digiplex or MSD on there? When the Ignition CD's lay down they cause sporadic missing. |

just found out the last mechanic that worked on my car in atlanta, put NGK "5" rated plugs...no wonder the thing was running so hot...poppping and backfiring...I need colder plugs...will try 7 or 8...thanks |

BBi's don't need hot/hotter plugs, they don't run rich. In the CO range they run there is no need to burn off excess fuel. And hot plugs can't overcome poor/bad state of tune, BB or BBi. |

That sounds a little cool. I have BP6EVX gapped around 0.20 to 0.25 but in a carburated BB. |

that is what the Club Plug recommend...just wondered whether a hotter plug is used by some others? |
