Bill,

>>>On a general note in this re: I was also advised by the same mechanic to periodically spin the fuses with your fingers...<<<

If you are using the stock fuse holder, amen. The fuse holder on the '85 308GTS here has totally improved fuse holders (see Archives). If using stock fuse holder, you may want to consider using Caig "Power Booster" (http://www.caig.com). It lowers insertion loss and enhances electrical conductivity. Hope this helps. Personally, i'd DUMP the stock fuse holders and go with MUCH BETTER aftermarket glass fuse holders. MUCH MORE contact and tighter contact area.

Tommy--there must be. That's precisely where the click comes from. When I was checking the connections on the hi-low console switch, it was clicking as well . It's odd that they wouldn't put this relay, if that's what it is, on the passenger side with the rest of them.

Same experience here with my power mirrors. The PM switch was broken when I bought the car, thus they had not been used for some time. I bought and installed a new switch and nothing - they still didn't work - so I just passed it off as non-working power mirrors. Then one day, about a week later, I figured what the heck, let me try that switch again, and whadda ya know - they now work!

Gotta love these car!!!!

I have used mine several times over the years and they do not seem to be getting better. I even had to run them a few times yesterday. I also have a problem with my left turn signal. At night it can turn my lights off if I use it. It doesn't even work all the time. The right signal is fine.

Is there a relay that runs the wiper under the instrument pod? I hear that rapid clicking when I turn the wipers on, but on my side, not over by the rest of the relays.

Steve--you may be onto something re: usage. When I was searching for my Ferrari, an excellent Ferrari mechanic who did a couple of ppi's for me indicated that a number of electricals on the old 308's will be begin working properly from sheer usage--in that some cars are driven so infrequently and some of the electrical components are never used, possibly allowing for some microscopic crud to form on small connections. On 2 cars that I looked at, the lights didn't pop up or stay down properly until we turned them on and off a number of times during a test drive--then they began to work. Re: my windshield wipers, the previous owner didn't even know exactly how to turn them on as the car had never been in the rain. So, perhaps yesterday's ride in the drizzle represents a baptism of sorts, with the wipers being used for one of the few times in the last 19 yrs.
On a general note in this re: I was also advised by the same mechanic to periodically spin the fuses with your fingers . He indicated that this tiny action can prevent the build up of crud, keep connections cleaner and, according to him, prevent the fusebox overheating/ melting problem which some cars experience

Well, i don't know if I repaired anything or just realized a stupid mistake. I took out the wiper speed switch, disconnected the wires , cleaned everything up and it began to work. Here's the stupid part--I don't know if I moved the wiper stalk down to the second level (ie continuous swipes) while I was driving the car! When I did after cleaning the the connections, it worked fine--with the first stalk position making for an intermittent swipe and the second position being continuous. Also, after cleaning, the hi and low console switch also works. Good luck to you guys.

Strange as the 85 308GTS QV once did the same thing, but through usage seems to have fixed itself. Naturally i, too, would like to hear a solution.

Today, I got caught in some drizzle for the first time with my 308 and noticed that the windshield wipers weren't working as well as they should. Specifically, they would work in an intermittant basis--about 2 swipes every 4-5 seconds. Moving the wiper speed switch made no difference at all. I also heard a click from under the dash (near the instrument light reostat) each time a swipe began. I presume that's normal (?) I'm assuming that the wiper speed switch is broken. Any other thoughts on this? Any tricks to removing the console top to remove the wiper speed switch? Approx what would be the cost of a new switch?
