Thanks guys, I am still reviewing things but this is great info. I appreciate it greatly. The car is running wonderfully with not major hiccups. Hope to keep it that way. My first was a 348ts and this is quite a step up.(sorry guys, but for me it is) There are no Bad Ferraris, just different Ferraris. Jeff |

Jeff - About the brake fluid stay away from the new silicone based stuff, with coolant just make sure its green (NOT orange), and go with a 70/30 mix if you can (less coolant). Distilled water is a good idea (altho not as big of a deal as it is with most cars), and yes water wetter! As for oil well there is MUCH discussion on dino vs. synthetic. There are good and bad with each. I'm on the dino side (not for all engines but on the TR especially) for my own personal reasons. Welcome to the proud TR owners club. Keep the questions coming. -Ben |

Jeff: You HAVE to use DOT4 for the TR NOT DOT3 for both brakes and clutch. Coolant as Peter is suggesting. Why 20/50 oil, just use Mobil 1 or Shell Helix (which IS the best oil available on the planet) from the F dealer. Oil filter - no aftermarket available, just go to the dealer. And also use Mobil tranny sync oil for your transmission. Christian |

Brakes: Check your manual, but it could be DOT 3. Try using Ford's DOT 3, has a higher boiling point (@ 550°F). At least the type avaliable up here in Canada (Canadian Tire stores) has this rating, check first. Coolant: Any name-brand antifreeze will do the job. There are others here that will suggest "WaterWetter" in addition, probably better for you in hot AZ. Use distilled water, not tap water. Tap water has too much minerals and crap that will build up in your cooling system. Oil: Usually the synthetic stuff has a wider viscosity range than 20W50 dino oil. Not sure about Mobil 1, but I know Castrol Syntec is 5W50. The 20W50 is more than satisfactory for your climate. In the end, synthetic is still better than regular dino oil. |

Hi, I'm a new 1990 TR owner and I'd like to know what are the proper fluids for the brakes, coolant, oil(is synthetic Mobil 1 ok, how about 20w/50w here in Tucson). The manual doesn't give updated info based on 2001 availability. Also, how about a Mobil 1 oil filter number? Thanks in advance. Any other advice would be appreciated. 4RE Jeff in Tucson |
