I used fingernail polish on the flywheel. Red for 7dbtdc 1-4 and blue for 7dbtdc 5-8 and white for tdc. |

That's what I did with mine too, including a mark on the front pulley so I knew how many times I rotated the engine before checking again. |

Good tip Kelly. With the flywheel, I went one step further: I white-out'ed the 7°BTDC 1-4 and 5-8 marks and then coloured them using felt-tip markers to differentiate the banks of cylinders. In my case, red for the rear "Destra" bank and blue for the "Sinistra" bank of cylinders. Shows up well with a timing light and makes for a quick reference when turning over by hand (so I wouldn't confuse the all-white marks and mis-time the engine)... |

Wipe it on, wipe off the excess and you can see it pretty good.
