Go to it. common practice. Works great. Search the archives for 'oil' and 'dye'.

I have used the dyes on several occasions with great luck on both oil leaks and coolant leaks.

The stuff work great. I presume you're speaking of the UV sensitive dyes that are visible under (duh!) UV light...No risks/harm, etc.

Anybody have any comments on the use of dye to detect source of an oil leak? Can it harm the engine? I wouldn't think so, but just thought I would see what others think.
