OOPS! Wrote it up for F*LIST. How to remove a YORK (piston) style compressor: 0) Loosen A/C belt tensioner & remove A/C belt. 1) Remove the A/C belt tensioner ass'y. 2) Remove the 3 nuts & their metal washers from the upper side of the compressor mounting bracket. The compressor is mounted to the bracket with 3 studs. The nuts for the studs are on top of the bracket. You have to access the nuts thru the engine bay & it's a snug clearance for a ratchet wrench w/a short socket. 3)Pry out the upper rubber half-bushings that are under the nuts. 4)Work the compressor down & out of the mounting bracket. NOTE: The A/C hoses are usually long enough so that you can hang the compressor over the rear of the gas tank. |

Search the TechQ&A archives, both the ones at the end of the current TechQ&A section & the true archives. I wrote up compressor removal a few months ago for someone. |

Has anyone removed and replaced the a/c compressor and dryer on a 328? How did you go about doing it? I have an '88 328 that is in need of this. I would appreciate the benefit of your experience so as to avoid any nasty surprises when working on the car. Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter. |
