Simon,

Great to hear that the problem is solved :-)

Make sure you never touch the gas pedal when starting the engine - I believe this is one of the reasons the ECU gets its knickers in a twist!

There are probably other reasons why it can or may have happened.

When you disconnect the battery the ECU goes into a "learn" mode. This is usually complete within 10-15 mins - Hence not touching the gas pedal while doing the procedure.

Best

Simon,

What Phil suggested regarding the ECU reset was what I was going to post on my first reply. Always a good starting point and simple to do.

Watch out for the cruse control :-) (Floor mats hitting the lower part of the gas pedal) when doing this!.

As Phil said regarding the cam belt change - I would give Graypaul a call and tell them the problem - I am sure they would give the engine the once over.

You cannot be careful enough when it comes to cam belts and 348s!!

Try disconnecting the battery. Leave the car until it's stone cold to do this.

Reconnect after more than 10 minutes, and start car touching no throttle, and leave it idle until cooling fans turn on.

This is a basic ECU reset procedure. Then drive it and feel what it's like.

But if belts were only done 400 miles ago, I'd be going back to the shop for them to give it the once over, Unfortunately, cam timing is hard to check on a 348 quickly, so it's not a 5 min diagnostic exercise. There are no precise crankshaft markings and the mechanic has to establish TDC himself when belt changing.

348 has only one very long belt and it's easy for the mechanic to make a mistake with either the belt fitting or tensioning correctly....it's well known and one of the reasons the 355 went back to 2 belts.

You only need the main belt drive gear one tooth out, and all four cams are put off time by a big margin....with about a 25% power loss

yeah i had about 40 mins of traffic to drive through before i was on motorway and the same when i returned so the car had plenty of time to warm up and run down at end of trip.

Pardon my intrusion, as I have yet to own a Ferrari.
When you began your roadtrip, did you give the car ample time to warm up before pushing it's capabilities? At the end of the run, did you come in at lower power? (Much as a race car needs to wind down through a lap)

paul

she starts up ok.when she is cold it seemed a little rough before but after about 5 mins no problem.put it down to engine warming up.the day before it started i had done a 100 mile trip in her.seemed to be the day after that from starting her in the morning its like she never got going properly.the exhaust does sound a little different.i would say there is 25% less power than before.she can be a bit harder to start when warm but allways fires up.she had a major service and cam belts done by gray paul about 400 miles ago.

thanks

Simon,

Need a bit more info:

Did you notice this while driving along? Or did it happen from cold one day?
How much lack of power? - Roughly?
Any difference in noise from the engine?
Is it harder to start her up since the problem arose?
Have you done anything in the enginebay lately? (detailing - change air filter etc...)
