When the check valve failed it allowed hot exhaust to flow through it and toast the hose that's connected on the other end. It is about a 3/4" rubber hose with a metal inner braid and the cloth outer braid. Does anyone have a source for replacement hoses. I'll probably replace the others while I'm at it. Local auto parts stores don't have the metal reinforced hoses and hose supply stores don't have the outer cloth braid. Thanks for the help Donny |

The air flow is into the exhaust manifold, the check valve keeps exhaust gases from flowing out through the air injection system. Fresh air is injected into the exhaust manifold to aid in reducing hydrocarbons etc. at the cats. |

I found a check valve for a GM 350 at Auto Zone. It threads match the ones on the exhaust pipe and the hose end also is the correct size. My question is what direction should the valve allow the air to flow. I assumed initially that exhaust gas flowed through the check valves, toward the inlet air filter, however this new check would block exhaust flow and only allow flow toward the exhaust. Is this check not the correct one? Maybe someone could explain the system to me, I thought I understood it, but maybe not. Thanks |

The items you are talking about are air injection check valves instead of EGR check valves. This will make a big difference when you go shopping. |

These parts are made by General Motors, you should be able to match them up at a NAPA store. Try 81 Buick Regal as match. |

I have noticed a rattling sound around the rear distributor ever since I bought my car, but I never could locate it. Tonight while I was cleaning the engine bay I noticed the hose that connects to the EGR check valve (located next to the rear distributer) was badly burnt. While taking it off I noticed the check valve was rattling. I took off the valve off the exhaust pipe. The flapper (for lack of the right name) was not attached to anything, thus the rattle. I now need to replace the hose and valve. Could someone tell me where is the best place to find these items, I mean other that the dealer. Would this item be available from a local parts store such as NAPA and what car would it cross reference to? Also would you replace both while you are at it, or wait for the other one to start rattling also? Thanks Donny |
