Ernie, try a search on Ferrari Clutches (it was in Technical Q&A). There was quite a bit of good info in that discussion. Also some suggested only replacing/rebuilding the clutch plates if the unit was not too badly damaged. |

Thanks Pete They did go to a single disc, I think in '93 and there after in the 348. I was wondering if the single disc from the later cars could be mated to the trany without modification. Of course the fly wheel will have to be changed. If not, does any body know where I can get high quality clutch pads. I'm willing to pay the money if it means I will get long durability. I am aware that the way you drive has a part, but I really think the clutches put in these tranies suck nuggets. |

Multiple-disc clutches have more surface area to grab onto, thus can transmit more power. If you've seen the clutch on a F1 car, they're only about 4½" in diameter, but have anywhere from three to five discs. If the OEM clutch on the 348 is known to go early (?), it may be the clutch disc material is inferior. I don't think there is a commercially avaliable single-disc conversion for this, or other multi-disc set-ups. |

I am goin to have a new clutch put in my 1990 348ts. Thing is, is that it is a dual plate clutch. I'm getting quotes for $1500 - $1800 for the clutch, and the upgraded throw out bearing is about $800. I'm also told that if I need a new flywheel the part is gonna run me around $3k. Would it be more cost effective in the long run to just replace the Dual with the single, as they did in the later models. Or, is there some advantage to the dual disc? From what I have gathered seems these clutches are constanty going out. Does AP have an upgrade for the clutch? Also can the single plate be fitted inside the same housing? thanks Ernie |
