I reflecting on what a year it has been with a nice drive around the local backroads... I was taxi'ing out on an Alaska flight to take a look at a T Cab when we were delayed on the tarmac. no word and as we were sitting there, I placed a call to my parents on the East Coast just to say hey. They passed word that a plane had just hit the first tower and the second hit as we were on the phone. We were taken back to the gate with a notice that we would be flying out in 30 minutes or so. The flight attendant was a friend of ours so I told her what was going on, asked if she could ask the captain if some folks could get off the plane based on this news and much to my surprise, we were allowed. I went home, ending up purchasing my first T Cab a few weeks later, a friend of my wife's totaled it and nearly killed her (my wife). Found another and have been thinking about how lucky I am to be living each and everyday - thus the T Cab is my daily driver. Hope the day passed well for everyone. - JMG |

I think September 11th is a day to reflect upon the horrific tragedy that occured last year on this day and the countless others that occur and have occured. It is important to remember that acts of terrorism and the suffering of innocent people occurs everywhere in our world to all races of people of all religions. It is only when people lose their hatred and stop selfish acts against one another that we can look forward to living in a peaceful, safer world. |

Christian, my comment about driving my pride and joy to work is an expression of defiance against those murderers. I can drive it any day I like, but Wednesday will be special. Our lifestyles, our houses, our cars are examples of what they hate about us and 9/11 is a perfect time to flaunt it in the face of those scumbags. I only wish Osama were lying in the road on my way to work so I could give him a shave with my rear wheels. Nobody is more saddened about 9/11 than I, and nobody is more angry about 9/11 than I.

I dont think that America deserved what it got in any way. I cant say I was surprised though. There are people in other countries who plainly see our way of life as repellent. My father said to me the other day, "A lot of people in other countries hate Americans." He and I both travel extensively and often and have found this to be true. To anyone who travels often, this is nothing new. I have encountered rudeness, indifference and outright hostility when visiting other countries. These instances are very rare and you can have the same experience in America on any given day, of course, but the fact is that theres a perception of Americans in other countries that one almost has to go out of ones way to disprove. Many cultures all over the world see America as crass and destructive, exploitative and manipulative. America does a lot of good and a lot of not-so-good. No country is perfect, of course, but no country on earth does things in such a grand fashion as America. The Hollywood industry could have never come out of Europe. I am not talking about making movies; I am talking about Hollywood as an attitude, a power and a presence. Whenever I see an actor getting into the political arena it makes me sick. I cant imagine what other countries must think. When Florida couldnt get their votes tallied in the last presidential election I winced thinking about how hard the rest of the world must have been laughing. It also occurred to me that forces that dislike America could take in that information and reckon that we dont have it together and that its a good time to attack. When you live as well as America does (and America lives very, very well), you have to protect it and you have to deal with the fact that theres millions of people all over the world who dont have a fraction of what the average American has. From material possessions to basic freedoms--America is the rockstar nation. I think the American media should stop the "Boy are we surprised!" type of reportage. Wake the f*ck up. America, youre hated. Terrorism happens all over the world all the time. I heard someone say on CNN the other day, "America used to be the world. Now America is part of the world." Its an all time low and we gotta deal. The flag waving "U-S-A" chanting is a too little too late. The knee jerk patriotism is corny to me. If you want to be a patriot, then be one all the time, not just when you feel your homeland attacked. Its not just about being vigilant against attack, its about knowing that until racism is gone, illiteracy and semi-literacy is gone and myriad other social ills wiped out, then no one is totally free. Thats my kind of patriotism. No more ghettos, no more idiots, no more of the blind, brutal ignorance that keeps progress at a crawl. I have at least said way too much. Sorry if I offended fellow F chatters, but I've had enough. All we can do is go forward. |

I was priveledged enough to meet a number of NY firefighter, police, port authority, army, navy etc members at my cousins New Years Party. He started his own 9/11 fund, and personally paid for them to go to his house for New Years. To hear their stories of what happened, and how they had lost co-workers and friends, was something I will never forget. They are truly heroes. Here is a link to a flash movie of 9/11. A warning to some, there are some disturbing images of people jumping out of the buildings. But this was very well done, and made my blood go cold, especially when it started to play the audio of people that day. It's about 10 min long, but worth it. http://home.attbi.com/~sept11/ I am also attaching a picture of the heroes I was able to meet earlier this year. They will be in my thoughts and prayers, along with those less fortunate and were not able to make it out alive.

Eammon: Well said. Sure we are mad about what they did to us on 9/11. the people who did that deserve to die, and so does anyone who provided them with aid and comfort. Having said that, the second half of the issue is: what have we done to piss off that many people. The argument that they are crazy, jealous, etc. is one for simpletons. We have done things that have affected that geo-political area, and those things have indeed impacted upon the people there. Are we sorry, should we be sorry, are we willing to face the consequences of our own behavior? If it was worth it, so be it, but we should have a rational conversation about what we did, what we will do, and what we are willing to do to obtain our standard of living. We are all on the top of the food chain, or close to it. We should be willing to admit that we are not always right, if its ok, then I guess it was worth it. And by the way, I have no desire to eliminate tobacco: just let us sue them for the damage that they caused. Same thing about Nationalized medicine: we have the best system, if you have enough economics to get the proper treatment. If not, our system is less than what other third world countries get. Should be modify the system to deliver the medical resources to a higher number, to the detriment of a few? Good question, should be discussed rationally, but we don't have those types of discussions. A lot of times, the ideology of our side gets in the way of rational coherent thought. In my humble opinion. Art |

Hug my family , fly our flag, think of those who lost so much , pray for the warriors that defend us, May they find their targets and inflict pain so intense that even the depths of hell would not compare. For every life we had stolen from us we should reciprocate ten fold. |

The whole world was shocked on Sep 11, 2001. What has happened should never happen again. I fall in tears thinking about the moment it happened and I heard it on the radio. Many people died and many families have suffered. Hard for me to understand how you can talk about marines and 8 ltr. engines. Both don't save lifes, less is often more - think about it. |

Joe & Paul, great messages. Eamon, same for you, but Saddam has killed 10 times as many of his own people. And, the only reason his people are starving is because he makes them starve to create a political point, and so he can have 36 palaces (I am not making this # up) and a well-fed army...and a well-financed cmehical & nuclear weapons program. The UN sanctions are NOT making him behave as a singulary murderous and self-indulgent despot. It is too bad so many apologist Europeans, who like doing business with Saddam, don't realize this. BTW, I am NOT advocating invading Iraq. I do not believe a strong enough case has yet been made for that. But don't blame the problems in Iraq on the UN. Blame them on their TRUE cause--Saddam. |

The goal of terrorism, as far as I understand, is to create fear and change our way of life. I dont think anything is going to happen tomorrow. I hope not anyway and will go about my day like any other day. But, if nothing happens, they still met their goal. People are concerned, they are preparing and to a certian extent, changing their way of life. The way of life in the US and to a lesser extent in Canada has changed forever and that is what terrorists want. They want the americans to be in fear. I know two wrongs dont make a right but I would like to see several countries wiped off the map in response to the attack 1 year ago. I think the world would be a better place because all those young kids that are waiting in line to grow up and be terrorists, being trained to hate should be killed now, nip it in the bud if you will. |

I will be remembering the people, of ALL nationalities, that were murdered a year ago. I will remember the people our goverments let die every day throughout the world from AIDS and hunger when there is so much they (we?) could have done to save them (if they or there countries were of sufficient strategic importance ?). I will recall the 500,000 women and children who have died of hunger, lack of sanitation and medicines since 1991 in Iraq as a direct result of UN sanctions. (As an aside, the last two UN commissioners for Humaniterian Relief resigned in the last four years in protest at the "genocide" (their words) being committed in Iraq by the imposition of the totally ineffectual santions. I will reflect on WHY do a hugh number of people in the middle east hate people from the west. I will endevour to always find out the truth about a situation before being blindly critical and I will pray that all of us try to understand each other better and realise that the world is a very small place that NONE of us can claim ownership. I will ask how bad would things, in my or my families life, have to be before I could justify committing an almost unbelivable act of barbaity, as that of Sept 11 2001 I will ask as many people as possible to read "The New Rulers Of The World" by John Pilger, in the hope that they gain a greater understanding as to why there is so much hatred between the Middle East and the West. The relative peace in Ireland was brought about mainly by both sides in the conflict acknowledging the rights of the other. Finally, I will thank my creator for allowing me to be born in a democracy that allows me to express my views without fear. I as a citizen of Ireland and having had first hand experiance of the war in my own country would ask you to contemplate what is war. Is it retribution ? Is it the imposition of ones morality over another ? Is it greed ? Is it etc etc. The bottom line is that it is the poor and defenceless who always suffer the most. Guys like us, who drive Ferrari's are some of the most privilaged in the entire human race. We are in the top .00001 percentile out of six billion people. Please think about why none of us have considered and then carried out the murder of 3,000 people, and some other poor bastard has. Then again, it is said that there are three sides in every conflict, The aggressor, The victim and by far the worst of all, The silent. Eamon Ireland ps Talk about off thread ! |

For those of you who weren't part of the FC community a year ago, you may want to check the thread which started exactly one year ago tomorrow morning. I'd recommend you start at the bottom. It was a pretty diverse discussion and got a little ugly at times. Emotions ran high... understandably so. This was the first post on the subject at 9:30 (EDT) on September 11, 2001. It was posted by Greg Rodgers (Joechristmas): "This morning two aircrafts collided with the World Trade Center. Both buildings were hit and one aircraft collision can be seen on the News. Get to a TV ASAP! I can't believe this!!!!" http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/2605.html I'll be flying the flag tomorrow. |

We will show up to the office, we will work hard. My staff will provide the very best service they can. We are victorious because we will not sit and cower but choose to stand firm. Why so quick to blame God when the tragedy is the result of man's inhumanity to man? God is not the problem, hate, bigotry, religious persecution, (dare I call it sin?)is the problem. If we learn to love one another rather than hate, most problems would evaporate. The nuts that want to attack this great country are filled with hate. They have no god but hatred. They mostly live in poverty because of corrupt governments who point to the U.S.A. as the problem to deflect the focus from themselves. They blame us for the poverty the enslaved people endure. God does not teach hate but love. He does not need me to defend him however. Mitch: your historical reasoning is correct, however, understanding the profound differences between the god of Islam and the God of Judism and Christianity is a theological issue not a historical one. Dave (Maranelloman) wtote:And may God, or whatever deity you prefer, have mercy on the souls of the #@$!&@#'s who attacked us. If they have souls. I write: Since Islam traces its GOD back to that very same Abram (wife Sari) that forms the basis of both Judism and Christianity, I think that the time has come to understand that GOD IS the problem NOT part of the solution. That said: I turely wonder about the direction our country has taken. If we are angry about the 3,000 persons killed on that awfull day and are willing to spend umteen billion dollars on justified mititary incursions (Afganistan) and questionalble military incursions (Iraq) than why are we not willing to spend tiny fractions of this kind of money where we could save umteen thousands of lives every year. {Tobacco, medical costs, safer roads,...} Then in the course of events, the only thing that really separates the USA from other counties is the Bill of Rights. This Bill of Rights indicates that those powers not ascribed to the government are retained by the citizens. I wonder if Ascroft has read it? No my friends, I will mourn those precious soul lost in the terrible attacks; but I will mourn the passing of our freedoms and liberty even more! And wonder if our government will ever understand that freedom and liberty are worth more than a dollop of security. "Those who would trade freedom and liberty for safety and security, will soon have neither" Ben Franklin.

Tom, that's a very nice message. We will be flying as many flags as I can find, and living a normal day in EVERY respect. And may God, or whatever deity you prefer, have mercy on the souls of the #@$!&@#'s who attacked us. If they have souls. Forza Ferrari!!!!! |

I have heard of people driving with their lights on all day long, my town is organizing a special candle display in front of people's homes. I plan to drive the f-car to show that the terrible acts will not hinder me from enjoying and living life to the fullest. |
