Have you checked out DICE (www.DICE.com)? There are a handful of Lotus Notes/Domino development contracts available. I should know, I too, am a Lotus Notes developer. I just past up on a contract in NJ. I can't travel or move (wife, 2 kids, house, etc.). I'm located in MA. Theo

plenty of companies still use lotus notes. nobody has a truly competitive product yet. microsoft has tried with exchange but hasn't come close (still). groove is trying, but they're quite a ways away still. it's a great system. it's expensive to maintain and operate, but i've used it for my last four companies and can't imagine living without it. it's tremendous for capturing all the institutional knowledge; keeping everybody in the loop; and dealing with non-co-located workers. if you're willing to put up with the pain (and there is some), notes is a tremendous tool. but i don't need any technical help - sorry david. doody. |

I'm a software developer (MCSD, MCT, with experience in asp, VB, Java, SQL, and Oracle) and it took me 3 months to find my last job. The longest since getting out of school! I also took a small pay cut. Things are hard right now for developers but jobs are still out there. It seemed to me like the same number of jobs existed but instead of beginning to end in a week it was 3 months or more. Instead of 1 tech interview and 1 personal interview, it was 2 or 3 personal interviews. Tighten your belt and get ready for the long haul, but you'll find something. I also wouldn't move away from what you know to quickly. It seems to me nothing is hot right but if I had to pick something to learn new it would be Biztalk.

Even Java developers are easy to come by these days. I don't know if anything is really hot. We're in a different world than just a few years ago. Software developers could name their price, now many are naming the price off the menu as a waiter at TGIF's. Doesn't matter if 100 people are competing for a job though, the best will always find a job. |

Thanks Rob....was actually looking to get into Java but I'm having a difficult time convincing myself that it's better to be a junior java developer where demand might be high than a senior level LN person where demand is low. I've put so many years into Lotus Notes and now I guess I really need to make the move out of it. If I had a Security Clearance here in the DC area I would have no problems!! |

Is there even that much demand for LN anymore? Sprint stoped using it about 3 years ago. I know it was really hot 1994 to 1999 or so. I just had one of my team laid off and he got a job within one week. He knows Java, Smalltalk, VB, and other stuff, but he got a great job doing stupid Crystal Reports. It's really easy if you know SQL, yet there's a big demand for it right now. We paid $1,500 for him to take the online courses and get the certification and that's all he's needed to get several job offers. |
