I had a 635 csi back a few years ago. I am not particularly impressed. The car has electronic ignition and other niggling problems. The steering sysstem was replaced under warranty. It does not handle all that well, and rear wheels spin easily on wet surface. Acceleration is lack lustre.

My advice is stay off it.

I made a lot of money repairing those Turkeys. Computers are short lived as well as most of the electronics.

Had a M635i grey market car.As I remember had about 25 hp more than US model-believe it had 287 or 289 hp.
O.K. for a year -then big time electrical issues-stay away!

I have had a 635 for 12 years...great car. I would like to sell it. It was written up in Roundel back in '91 due to the aftermarket Cartech (Corky Bell) turbo. Let me know if you want more info on it. Looks more like an M6.

I would stay away from that one, if you can go look @ the car, check for rust around the windows, leaking head gasket, cracked dash, stress cracks on the differential mount, (get it on a lift) CV joints, A/C needs to have 134A conversion from older R12 system. I had this problem with mine. Let me how much you want to spend & I'll see what I can find in Houston, E mail me @ the shop. Your better off with a 635 rather than a 633 due to resale value.

Thanks for the tips.

I called about 1979 633 in San Antonio, but it's an automatic with 137K miles and A/C problems. A little too scary for me.

I've liked the cars since I first saw them on InnerSpace :-)

I had a modified 633 CSI back in 1989 to 1995. It was a blast, easy to work on but parts were not cheap. Some older BMW's require a lot of attention. If you get one, check BMP in Tyler, TX for upgrades. Here's a small list on what years to look for.

1977 630 carb, OK but had to very hard to find
1978 to 82 635 Euro hard to get some parts for
1980 to 81 633 US some problems with fuse box electrics, 4 sp tranny (mine)
1981 5 sp tranny is available!
1982 to 1984 633 WARNING!!! first year for the computer system, major problems, stay away!
1985 to 86 US 635 still some electronics bugs but better.
1987 to 1988 (last year) the best to get, find a US M6 if you can, Euro cars have electrical problems, that goes for any year. too many jinxed grey market cars bungled by DOT/EPA shops that rushed the cars in back in the 1980's

I'm thinking about getting a M6 project car if the price is right. Let me know if you find one & I'll let you know what problems to look for depending on the year.

I know I love their looks, never had one though. Maybe Dave(Maranello Man) has had one before.

I've started poking around with google, but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the BMW 6 series as a daily driver. Any thoughts, good, bad or ugly?

Thanks
