William, Just saw a nice description of Cortina and Courmayeur (Places to go, hotels, restaurants etc.) at the Grand Tour section (See Mountain Resorts) of the Ferrari Owners Site (www.owners.ferrari.com). Has some good tips for your trip, I guess. Con saluti cordialissimi, Jens Haller |

William, Tom is right with Cortina d'Ampezzo. A very nice resort but fairly expensive. Cervinia is great because you have access to the ski areas of Zermatt on the other side of the mountain. Cervinia is also way cheaper than Cortina but has a greater and better Skiarea although I like Zermatt on the swiss side much more (Nicer village, more nightlife, trs chic but very expensive). Another well known and cool resort is Madonna di Campiglio which lies geographically nearest to Milan (About 2 hours I would guess!). If you really want to go skiing for several days I would suggest you to stay at the resorts because the traveling from Milan is due to the daily traffic jams very long. IMO it doesnt pay of because you will miss the time when arriving there. For all possibilities you need a car so you have to rent one. If you just want to go for one or two days Madonna di Campiglio is the place to go from Milan (Nearest!). I can email you a map with all good resorts in Italy. On that you can see how far they are away from Milan. Con saluti cordialissimi, Jens Haller |

The best skiing experience in italy is cortina - unfortunately it is closer to venice than milan. cortina is like the aspen of italy. If you are going for more then the skiing (i sure you are) it is the place to go. If you are limited to places near milan you can go to Bormio - very low key but decent skiing - Jan can sometimes be a little early for good snow. Two other places that come to mind are Cervina - the italian side of the matterhorn - lots of snow early in the season or Courmayer which is the italian side of mt blanc. There are of course many other choices. |
