No, Hitler ordered them to design the car and used slave labor to built it. He was partying with Eva Braun while they toiled with the VW.

Azspider: Not really a strange post when you consider the founding history of Ford. Of course Ferrari's are high dollar cars, they pretty much have always been. But a major reasoning behind Henry Ford's empire was the ability to create an automobile that could be affordable to the working class guy. That's how Ford made his fortune. Seems a far cry from $150,000 GT40 retro rods. Sort of reminds me of Chrysler being horribly in debt and asking for a government bailout. Then they bounced back and ended up making such economically affordable cars like the Viper. Give me a break.

When I was a kid growing up in San Diego my dentist had a GT40 as his daily driver...
It has always been one of my favorite cars of all time.

I saw the originals run in the late 60's at Daytona and Sebring. They and the 917s were always my favorite prototypes...The GT40 was created after Henry Ford tried in vain to buy out Ferrari. The sale was a done deal until Enzo had second thoughts at the last minute and backed out. The GT40 was Henry's revenge!!

It's a retro car thats why it looks the same. I don't like most retro's (p.t.cruiser) but this car looked so wild for it's time, I still love it. Kind of spendy, Oh well I can dream,20 years used maybe. Im sure we will soon be seeing (new gt40 vs. Ferrari).

Got a call from the dealer last week, we need to pick the colour of the car. My brother and I are leaning in the direction of the Gulf Livery vs the white with blue stripes. I think the Gulf Livery will just push the car over the edge. Ford is still talking late winter next year for delivery, but could be a bit later. I cannot wait till track season for this animal.

I know that I will certainly sleep better at night knowing that during these tough economic times, massive layoffs, and high unemployment, Ford is working hard to provide a $150,000 car for the elite to buy and drive. I'm sure that Henry Ford would be proud that his company is still providing such low cost transportation to the working class masses!

I saw a new one in the studio last week when in the audience of new episode of Top Gear. It definitely had "GT40" on the side as the original did. It's apparently 4 inches taller (GT44?) and 18 inches longer than the original with a claimed 500bhp as you say. As the one from the sixties was good for 200mph, I can only wonder what the new one does.
As I looked all around it, what struck me as odd in a way, was that the new GT40 seems to be the complete process for manufacturing a new car, except with the designer deleted. I mean the technology is all updated but 0 out of 10 for originality of thought, surely? What do others think? Cynical marketing exercise or genuine contribution to 21st century motoring? I still wouldn't mind one for Christmas...

It will only be called the GT because Ford could not come to terms with the company that bought the rights to the GT40 parts. Their goal is to build 1000 per year with a pricetag @ $125k. Most of the car will be built between Ford tuners Saleen and Rousch. 500hp is supposed to be the output. Only dealers that meet certain levels of criteria will be able to get them.

At a FCA track event this year I was lucky enough to see and hear an original GT40. I must say that the GT40 is my second favorite track car ever... How do the rest of us feel about that great car [that beat ferrari two years in a row at LeMans]. Ford is making a new GT40 next year in very limited production. It is supposed to be incredible....who has info on this...how much...specs... waiting lists...what dealers...I really think that I need one in addition to the ferrari!!!!!
