I lined up against a beautiful red Z06 at the dragstrip a month ago. He tried sandbagging me with some Aw shucks, everybody knows a Viper can beat a Z06 stuff. I knew he had something. He ended up passing me at the line on spray. Then he took the bottle out and we went again and it was no contest. Good guy though, we had some laughs. He admitted there was no contest stock vs stock. If for no other reason to like the Viper, it lit a fire under GM and even Ford with their 03 Mustang Cobra and GT40. An example of a typical ahole is a recent post on the Viper board about a Doug Levin Supercharged Viper waxing a 360. Duh. Writing about a friendly encounter is one thing but bragging about an 800hp Viper beating a stock anything is all ass.

I grew up around Corvettes and the stories my dad would tell me about his when he was a kid, so I'm in love with them and hopefully one day will be able to park one next to the 308. I'm starting to really like Vipers though because everytime they bump the Viper up in HP, make it a little sportier, etc it sparks Chevy into gyrations trying to keep the gap between them from widening. The ZO6 is largely attributed to trying to close the gap between the Vette and the Viper. They have rumors of the next ZO6 once again trying to get closer with something like 450hp. So, all the power to the Vipers. Plus, we need more of these true sports cars lacking plush amenities, etc. Alright, I'm starting to ramble here, but I remember once down the shore (in NJ) having a Viper pull out onto the two lane each way road I was on. I pulled up with him on the right and he gave me the thumbs up and I waved back. I put the Fcar in second at about 5k rpms and stood on it just joking around because we both know the outcome of a drag race between the two, he then downshifted and it was like a gun went off. The rear tires fought to grab the asphalt sliding a little bit, he promptly caught up to me. I waved again as I had to turn off and he waved back. He was just cool. |

Glad to hear youve had good experiences with Viper owners and youre probably correct about Miami. Florida is in the top five for most Viper owners and there are only a few of us that track. Viperdays (the Viper racing organization) doesnt even come to Florida because of too little interest. Damn posers really piss me off. To be honest every make has their fair share of jackasses. Maybe Im one of them, but I always talk to anyone interested and I never put down their ride. One of my favorite quotes was on this very same topic on the Corvette board. One thing about a Viper, if you pull up next to one theres a good chance hell run you. Made me smile.

Yeah they are supposed to be the modern day Cobra, before that series one thing was designed (I can't help but laugh when that car is brought up). To be honest, I've had good experiences with Viper owners, I know they're all supposed to be muscle bound, etc but they've all been pretty cool and knew a thing or two about cars. This is up in the northeast though, I would venture to guess in Miami or the likes that may not hold true. Although Fcar owners down there are probably a little lofty too for the most part. I think I've successfully offended anyone on this site in Miami (Martin and his gumbas) so I'll stop typing while I'm ahead, or behind is it. |

Although I'm into Chevy's and would never really be interested in getting a Viper, I gotta hand it to them for having an awesome car that goes against the grain of all these new bubble like, wind tunnel designs. Vipers have that real muscular look to them almost like a 427 Cobra did. Having that monstrous V10 is pretty cool too to say the least. |
