I suppose it makes sense for Cops & mailmen & people who have to walk all day long. But anybody else should be ashamed to be seen on 1 of these things. Why not just get a bike or a scooter or an ATV ? |

I saw one of these last year as an ALMS pit vehicle at Sears Point (last April maybe?), not sure who's it was, but it was nifty to have seen one so early in the hype. -Ben |

It's only a matter of time before someone figures getting a little air makes sense. A future X-Games opportunity, maybe? |

It's interesting that Dean Kamen's inventions seem so different. First he makes titanium heart stents, then a portable kidney dialisis machine, then the Segway comes along to make more people overweight so they need his first two inventions. His next one is the wheelchair that climbs stairs and costs $29,000, then probably his biggest deal will be his Sterling Engine that will provide electricity and purify drinking water to millions in the third world. |

The same guy that invented this thing made big bucks in the medical field with his creations; recently built a wheel chair that can climb stairs. The gyro technology was probably the segs predecessor. I'm not too crazy about this thing. Agree with you guys - go further, faster, and over rougher terrain on a bicycle. |

LOL Tim. I find the outrageous something like 60% obesity rate in the U.S. insane too. No matter what the Europeans try to say, they don't work nearly as hard as the Americans from an hours put in standpoint, and I think that the weight reflects this. Many Americans don't have the time to workout which is a shame (job, family, etc). Plus the inherent inability for a mass transportation system of any real worth excluding large cities, etc means you're in the car from one point to another with a total of 20 steps walked. And, we're just about the only country in the world with cheap beef (amongst other foods), which is inherently more fattening. There are numerous reasons why America is more inclined to obesity, but I still don't see it as an excuse. Sometimes I wonder if the genetic melting pot of the U.S. makes us more prone to weight gain like this. It obviously reflects increased size (steroids in most meat doesn't hurt that either, lol), but I wonder if it leads to obesity too. Yes, I actual do wonder these ridiculous thoughts on occasion, usually when I'm walking across campus for some reason. |

I saw a demo vid of these. It showed people using them in an office. I will never be that lazy. With crap like this on the market, its no wonder that america has the highest % of obeses people. This was mentioned on weekend update once, it the words of jimmy falon, "this will revoltionize the way people get hit by cars." |

They'd be a kick in the pants to play with, but once the novelty wore off, it'd just end up in my closet. Actually, just thinking.... (hmmm....that's a switch). I see lots of motorized skate boards and scooters around race tracks for getting around the pits. Dozens and dozens of them. Probably would work well in that kind of environment. |

What was the story behind the wiz-kid that came up with this? (cool technology) I was really turned off by the HUGE over-the-top marketing buzz. How did this wiz-kid get so much funding $$$ behind this idea that just can't work. ( yeah all we have to do is make the sidewalks wider in all the big cities. Right!) |

i bought four of them for marketing purposes. we'll probably keep them for a month or so and get rid of them once the novelty wears off. |

I still can't see this taking over in the big cities. Imagine two segways going 12mph each approacing the corner of a sidewalk. If the sidewalk is at a blind 90 degree angle you could have a nasty little collision. I think the technology used to make this thing is unbelievably cool, but can this be as successful as it has been predicted to be? Also, what ever happened to just purchasing a bicycle? |

Segway is one of our clients, and the team got to play with them while they were building the site last year. They say that it is a lot of fun. |
