What a day, you guys are right. If anything I just needed to relax. It was all me. I need to look as far ahead as I can, at least not just 30 ft in front of me, also to push my harder though the turns, work that steering caster to the limit & be smooth. I expected to make some mistakes my first time out & have no problem with that. This a was a great learning experience if anything. I got some good tips from other drivers & instructors, they just said to have fun with it. I can't wait until the next event, it was a blast.

Don't worry too much about the details yet. Just go out there and have fun and learn. I agree about using street tires for awhile. You'll learn much more about car control because your mistakes will be more noticable. I did the Evolution school and it's great because of all the track time, national champ instructors, and they time your run in segments so you can directly compare to your instructor. I would recomend this after running several autocross events first. |

Two other suggestions: 1) Make sure the car has a fairly recent, good wax job. That'll make getting any cone marks off much easier. 2) Leave those track tires in the garage until you've gotten at least 50 runs in on street tires. Preferably 100 runs. You'll learn much faster on street tires than track tires. (Plus, it'll give you an excuse for being slow while you're still learning! )

Thanks for the response, I will be in STU class for solo II I think. I went out to Gulf Greyhound Park south of Houston today for a practice. Couldn't get a run in yet in my car today but I got some ride-a-longs to get an idea of course layout. To add to that, the course will change for Sunday. Tomorrow I run with stock street tires, my track tires are on order. I expect nothing but learning experience by simple trial & error. I'll try to post some pics later. Brian & Tim, thanks for your help. Regards, Will |

Don't worry about prepping the car much... tighten the wheel lug nuts, make sure the oil and brake fluid was changed recently, and add some air pressure to the tires. Anything beyond that will likely be counter-productive to the far more important thing... prepping yourself. The best way to prep yourself is autox schools. And the best autox schools are the Evolution Schools, held all over the country. See: http://autocross.com/evolution/ for more info. Oh, and after that, check out the rest of autocross.com. In the Ft Worth area, the SCCA, ER, and PCA all hold autox schools. And sometimes the BMW CCA. HTH. |

I am getting ready to start driving my project Integra in solo events. I'm not sure what class I'll be running; the car is a bit modified. I'm sure someone here has experience in these events. Since this will be my first event, is there anyone here that has done this & if so what is the best way to prep myself & well as the car? Thanks, Will |
