Jon, you're not kidding...! That picture on her website of her in that yellow dress is killer...! She's just a little thin for my tastes, but gorgeous nonetheless... There's something about the women and fast cars combination that's just inDEScribable...

Another great female racer who by the way raced in the Ferrari Challenge series. I have met her and she is as fast as she is charming and beautiful.

Remember 2001 Sarah Fisher finished 2nd at Homestead - 2002 she could NOT get sponsorship for that race.......

That inspired me to write http://www.racerchicks.com/Chick_Pick/CP_Nika_sponsor.html my article that ran in the National newspaper here.

I have many young women that contact me, asking on how to get into racing. My first response is to STAY IN SCHOOL - racing is a business - learn business, marketing, journalism etc etc. English and math etc etc.

You know guys - if you met Leilani - you'd even think she was more beautiful - her personality shines. Take it from a fellow racerchick......(remember girls are catty by nature) but I can't say one negative thing about her or Danica.

Wow! You are right, Nika.

I had the pleasure to meet Danica last October at a Brian Redman event at Roebling Road in Savannah. Her boss, Bobby Rahal, was there driving his Martini Racing Porsche 908 (and kicking my butt when I was driving a McLaren M1 Can Am car), and he brought her along to test her brand-new, just-built Rahal Toyota Atlantic car. And, boy, can she drive!!! Se is tiny, however. I am 6'4", my wife is 5'4", and Danica must be 4'10" tall! Very long hair, shy, but very articulate.

Also, I just saw a Sarah Fischer TV commercial for Raybestos brakes the other day. It's good to FINALLY see women in motorsports doing endorsementsa & getting recognition.

Boy - how could I miss THIS ego boosting thread!?

BTW - about my pix - good photographer & old pix...in fact have a nother beer and I look even better!

Seriously - there are many talented female racers out there. Some are stunning both on and off the track. Leilani Munter is one that I've had the pleasure to speak with and is as wonderful and down to earth. http://www.racerchicks.com/racers/lmmunter.html

Milka Duno, Amanda Stretton etc etc are all beautiful women involved in the sport.

For me the problem is how much of your feminity or sexuality do you use to promote yourself in racing. Janet Guthrie (1st woman to ever race the Indy 500) was offered sponsorship if she'd pose nude for a magazine - she declined. I respect her for that. Many of the male racers I've spoke with say that if the tables were turned they would use every angle they could possibly use to race.....even if it meant being sponsored by Viagra (oh hang on - Mark Martin already has that sponsorship) ...maybe Midol or something.

Martin - I'm glad you like Danica - she has been very dedicated to racing and I know with Rahal's help she will do well and be a good role model for the younger generation of racerchicks

That leads to a further question:

I personally think that women will be more and more present in racing. Obviously for their talent but also because they make great marketing and that is 1/2 of motorsports.
Just like this mortgage company has bombarded their brokers with Danica's picture and that they now sponsor the Rahal team and Danica is their driver, a pretty girl makes good advertisement.
I am saying this strictly from a business perspective.

I think this is a great positive development for racing altogether.

What do you guys think?

Still waiting for Danica's phone number Nika...

News from www.Racerchicks.com

Danica Patrick logs first day on track in Barber Dodge Pro Series - Jul 5 2002

Team Rahals Danica Patrick made her debut in the Barber Dodge Pro Series Friday in the streets of Toronto as part of the Molson Indy CART Champ Car weekend.

Patrick, the 20-year-old female driver from Roscoe, Ill., drove the No. 89 Team Rahal/Rahal Automotive Group formula car to 16th fastest in qualifying on the 1.755-mile temporary circuit through the Exhibition Place grounds near downtown Toronto. The 5-foot-1, 100-pound dynamo was as quick as fifth early in the qualifying round and stayed consistently in the Top 10 before tire trouble slowed her.

Her single-lap clocking of 1:13.708 at a speed of 85.918 m.p.h. put her 16th on the grid after the first 30-minute qualifying session but Patrick felt she could have been quicker in her first outing in the Barber Dodge Pro Series.

Patrick signed an exclusive contract with Team Rahal last month and is beginning her trek through the newly formed CART Ladder System for young drivers. Patrick is scheduled to run five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 2002 before taking on the Toyota Atlantic Championship next year for Team Rahal.

Patrick will run one qualifying session on Saturday before Sundays 45-minute feature race set for 11 a.m.

Danica Patrick (#89 Team Rahal/Rahal Automotive Group) - Im a little frustrated with myself today. I think I was expecting to come out fast after the Sebring test with the Barber Dodge car. But I quickly realized that the street course is much different than Sebring. It was tough getting a consistency in the chassis setup. In the morning practice, the car was sliding quite a bit. So we got aggressive with the changes probably too aggressive. At the start of qualifying, I was able to lower my times pretty consistently. But the tire pressures got too high and the traction wasnt there. Thats probably some inexperience on my part with these cars. I should have pitted and had the crew guys adjust the pressures. Its only the first day and Bobby (Rahal) and everyone have been very helpful and supportive with me. The track will be getting better as the weekend goes on and that will help me. I ran two days at Sebring and didnt have one problem. Then I spun this afternoon. I couldnt believe it. I just hit a curb and the car got sideways. I think I have to settle down and drive the car like I have in testing. Its the first day and I was probably a little anxious today. The Barber Dodge people have been very good to me and they are excellent to work with on this program.

Bobby Rahal (Team Rahal co-owner) -Danica was a little tough on herself today. She is learning the track and the car all on the same day. Thats real hard to do. She has the talent and I think shell be more comfortable on Saturday and Sunday. She hasnt been on a street course with an open-wheeler before. So thats a learning curve in itself. But she is keeping right on the program that we set up. Its a step-by-step process and she understands that right now.

It is just a Lemans :-( When we had it redone in 94 THe body guy wanted to make it GTO but it wouldn't have been the same. It does have the 4spd Hurst with Factory A/C that makes it pretty rare.

She became famous by coming in second last year the prestigious Formula Ford Festival in the UK last year beating several folks who went on to compete in British and European F3 and Formula Renault. I saw her compete in Cleveland at the Barber Dodge Formula Pro Series where she placed in a top five if I remember correctly.

She also kicked Sara Fischer's butt in a celebrity race at a CART Indy car event. In fact she had a bet with Tommy Kendal (Trans Am champ and now a Speed Channel announcer) that she would beat him in the race as well. She did and as the winner of the bet got to drag Tommy around the padock all weekend on a leash.

She's got mega talent!

Martin - pick up Best of Motoring Volume 5. I'm currently out of stock or else I'd sell you one. During the Inline 6 shootout, there's a chick that brings her old Skyline out there, its NA, but she has individual throttle bodies on it. The guys are perplexed as to how she got them, because no one makes a plenum to match up to the intake. She said.. "I milled it myself." =D

In all seriousness. Isn't this girl HOT!

Danica Patrick is going to be driving for Rahal this year. If she drives as hot as she looks she will win this season for sure! Damn, makes me wanna watch CART.
