Matt: My wife's uncle is a guy by the name of Roy "Butch" Voris. I understand that either the library or the train station in your town is named after him. Started the Navy Demonstration Team. Art |

Guys if any of you want to see some planes jets helicopters..whatever move here to Pensacola. I am sure most of you know about the Navy Base located right across the bayou from me. I have grown up watching the Blue Angels practice EARLY in the morning right over my house. I watch all there home shows from my roof. If you look down the bayou you see the end of the runway so I get to see and HEAR every plane that takes off. I've seen everything from vintage planes to the occasional stealth bomber. Honestly I have become immune to them and now that I think about it I look at them the way people look at birds. The museum on the base here is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. |

arlie; It looks like you don't get it. They needed the money, couldn't use the name, because it caused people like me to not give them money. Not politically correct, just smart. The name has an oder, and I wouldn't support any enterprise with that name, and so wouldn't an awful lot of those people who have any sense about them. Not a question of being politically correct, but a question of who is willing to insult a goup of people. They weren't and changed their name. You obviously don't have any such compuctions. If you want to realize why that name causes certain segments of our society problems, try reading a history book or chat with an african american about their feelings. While someone has the right to use that name, they don't have a right to expect the rest of us to support them. Same as the American Nazi party. Can use the name, but there will be consequences. |

AHEM!, On behalf of the fruit fly lovers of america I respectfully request that you change the name of your racing team as we feel it belittles fly's of all species! (with tongue planted firmly in cheek) ;-) Dave (in New Orleans, the gateway to the confederacy!) |

As always, you bring up the insane reference to Nazi Germany. HISTORICAL NEWS FLASH: The southern states during 1861 through 1865 were NEVER a member of Nazi Germany!!! However, they most certainly WERE a member of the Confederate States of America. That IS a historical fact and there is no shame in remembering that fact. It is simply history. To pretend otherwise is simply being "politically correct" and pretending the past didn't exist. Everybody in the Confederate Air Force held the rank of Colonel, an obvious reference to southern gentlemen like Colonel Sanders of Fried Chicken fame. And even Colonel Sanders has become a victim of political correctness. The company doesn't even call itself Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore. Because any food that is FRIED might not fit into the politically correct world of HEALTHY eating. So they changed the company logo to read KFC. For crying out loud, what next? Are we going to pretend that Colonel Sanders was from California and that he hugged redwood trees before traveling by horseback to Canada and was the first person to save baby seals??? Give me a break. This is the United States of America. If you want to called your World War II aircraft club the Confederate Air Force, then DO IT. If somebody doesn't like it, tell them to start their own air force. And if the Confederate Air Force lost donations because of their name, so what? Maybe they shouldn't have to beg for donations anyway. Maybe you shouldn't buy a P-51D Mustang if you can't afford to fly it. Same goes for Fifi, the B-29 bomber. Buy the way, I am seeking donations for the newly formed Horsefly Racing Team. We want to buy several new Ferraris. Anybody want to fund the venture? We promise to remain politically correct, hug every redwood tree twice a year, and refrain from eating tuna fish sandwiches.

Arlie: It's one thing to use a name which has historical significance to the use. I don't think that either the North or the South has much of a powered airforce (I think they may have had ballons). By the way, it wasn't political correctness that caused the name change, it was money. The name had a shitty sound to it, for those of us who understood what it stood for, and they didn't get as much money from us with that sort of name. I don't see many businesses called the Nazi Coffee house, etc. Same thing here. People would be awful upset with a business, charity, etc. with a name like that. But, those folks aren't black, so their feelings wouldn't be called politically correct, would they? Art |

Hey Arlie How ya doin. I see you have'nt lost your touch. Do you remember we had a conversation about this before? Your right they use to be the Confederate Airforce but they folded under the pressure from the politically correct types and changed the name. I agree with you on this, we are way to obsessed with political correctness these days! |

William- I also enjoy Discovery Wings. I'm an aviation nut and spend what little free time I have cruising the "flight simulator" skies. I'd go get myself a license if I had a business that needed a pilot. Otherwise too expensive to keep flying a plane as a hobby. My areas of primary interest are modern military jets (all those F-models) and commercial aviation. Jordan, I was in Hawaii and took some pics AND video from the plane that brought me there. You have to go there at least once. In Honolulu, you will see BOTH F-16's and 747's sharing the same runways!! The action there is incredible. I once watched 2 F-15's do a "military" approach to the airport before landing. For non-aviation fans, it was ho-hum, but I was thrilled to be there!!
My pic here was of a JAL 747-300 being turned around at Honolulu Int'l (KHNL). You will see many airlines there that don't go to the mainland. Also, at this airport, the biggest runway is actually sitting on a reef. It is so long that NASA has assigned at is a Shuttle emergency landing facility. The other Hawaiian Islands will not disappoint either. Plenty of aircraft to see, from military to general to commercial. I highly recommend taking an air tour over any of the islands. |

You mean the Confederate Air Force? Named after the Confederate States of America from the Civil War days? Oh that's right, we can't even use the word Confederate these days without offending somebody. Wouldn't want that First Amendment to the Constitution to get in our way of being politically correct. As long as we don't want to offend anybody, let's just pretend that Adolph Hitler and Emperor Hirohito never existed and that WWII was just one big misunderstanding. And since we can't offend anybody, let's park all those gas guzzling, air polluting, WWII fighter planes so that Greenpeace or the other treehuggers won't be offended.

I just took the time to go back through this website. Visit it, peruse it, digest it if you love the old "warbirds". The amount of information it contains is tremendous. And the site is maintained very professionally. Give yourself a couple of hours to search it. You will love it. www.commemorativeairforce.com |

Check out: www.commemorativeairforce.com This is the old "Confederate Air Force" and they are very active with wings in almost all states and around the world. I have been to their annual show in Midland/Odessa Texas and can say it is well worth the trip. The static displays are wonderful, the members all dress in period costume and they put on a re-creation of the major air battles of WW2. Spitfires, P-51's, P-38's, Foks, Zeros, B-17, B-24, B29. You name it and it is there and flying. It is really a sight to behold. They also have a world-class museum on sight that is worth the visit on its own. Check it out, it is very excellent. |

Want to fly a high fidelity, physics based flight model virtual fighter in an online recreation of real WWII air combat? Its not easy to learn, requires a deep understanding of real world air combat tactics and is seriously addictive..... http://www.totalsims.com/index.php?url=wbiii/content_home.php Click on WB3 link and take a look. Also in reference to the Me262 project, they just crashed the first replica on its second test flight. Gear collapsed on landing. Pilot walked away but the plane was extensively damanged. With the poor econonmy they are having trouble selling the planes and this is a major setback. BTW: dont forget the best fighter of WWII: Focke-Wulf FW-190A6/r4. Gotta love an engine with water/methanol injection AND nitrous oxide! 2100hp.... 4 20mm cannon.... that bad boy rocks! |

Arthur, Go to Spider Aviation in Savana Ga. They have been importing the L-39 for a few years now. They can get you one that they will paint and outfit to your spec's. I toured thier facility personally, they are a class act. If I could afford one I'd get one myself. |

I am new to the Ferrari chat list and surfing the list. I am also a plane junky, fortunate enough to have my own plane(not a warbird), and have several warbird flights under my belt. (YAK, L29,L39, Dave Goldman tagged the sight to the ME 262. A friend of mine began that project, ran out of money and then sadly proceeded to kill himself in his F 86. Anyone interested in a flight in my nonwarbird Mooney Ovation is more than welcome. |

Its nice to see some fellow aviation enthusiasts. However my love is Commerical Aviation! Nothing like watcing an airliner take off... I travel to airports across the country and take pictures of airliners and collect them. Ive got thousands. My favorite thing to do is save up some cash, fly to soem city for an hour or so, just take pictures, then fly bakc home the same day One of these days Im gonna try and make it out to Hawaii...got some good asian airlines I dont have many photos of out there. You know what would be a blast, down at Miramar near San Diego they have a program called top gun where you rent out some planes and do virtual dogfights *like laser tag*. All of us Ferrari guys should get together one day and go to that place and see who is the king of the skies |

They have a place outside of Dallas where you can fly the jet trainers and they have some other Warbirds on display. Also, once a year or so, the Commemerative (ex-Confederate) Air Force brings in some planes to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Dallas and give rides. Last time there was a B17 and a B24. I'm excited because a fellow Lotus Club member here in Dallas just bought a Polish jet fighter trainer and has promised some rides... |

I am also a war bird fan. I flew a mission in a B-17 last year called the "Aluminum Overcast" it was a blast! I also love the P-51. In my opinion it was the best fighter of the war. If anyone has the cash I know were you can get a really nice L-39 jet fighter trainer for about $300K! |

Like you, I'm a warbird fanatic also...especially fond of the P51, Corsair, Phantom, and T-38's. Sometimes I envy those Warbird Club guys -- shoot, I'd settle for a ride in an S-3! About the closest I've come was flying the simulators of an S-3 and a P-3. Crashed a few times before finally getting the hang of it . |

I was watching Discovery Wings, 1 of my favorite channels & they mentioned a Warbirds Club where people who own or are interested in preserving old war planes can join. Who digs Warbirds ? I know Michael is going to chime in here I love the P51, Spitfire, Corsair, lightning, Focke Wolfe 190, ME 109 & 262. Then of course the later warbirds like the F104 Starfighter, Sabb Viggen, Phantom etc. |
