You can buy particle accelerators for under $100, you can make one for even less. TRy that with an engine... |

The reason it costs so much and that you already know about - you'll have to hire out a machine/fab shops time - not just a shop that turns rotors and flywheels, but one that makes anything from gears to oil drilling equipment. I recently inquired if I could get some gears made for the S2000 here in the US, when asked how many sets I'd be able to purchase, I said no more than 350. They said quantities of that amount, they will not even bother with. They are only intersted in manufacturing in the thousands, and even 350 is more like a one-off, no matter the cost. This is why gears for a Mustang run you 179 and gears for the S2000 run 1050. oil drilling shops and the like, who have equipment this large would charge you an arm and a leg and then multiply that times 100, because they are working with oil drilling. the reason I bring that up, they have the equipment in the size that you would need to go about this. but honestly, I feel that a particle accellerator would be cheaper in the long run, depending on how much property you have to work with. mucho luck. |

its also ALOT easier to build a particle accelerator than an engine. all you need is a vacuum and a magnet. |

I'm aware of the time and effort required to build an engine. I am also aware of the fact that people build things like particle accellerators in their backyards. There has got to be some online resource for someone intersted in engine design. |

People dont just "build" engines from scratch. Its a very expensive and complicated process that takes teams of engineers to make all the parts and also to make all the parts work with all the other parts. Nowadays engines are probably designed on some sort of solidworks type program before anyone even starts thinking about making molds. On the other hand, the wright brothers did build an engine from scratch, it could run for something like a few minutes before it broke. |

Does anyone know of a website that has info on custom engine building? Not the type where you have a stock block and you add aftermarket heads and exhaust.....I'm talking about clean-sheet engine design? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
