I was at the Johnson Space Center last year and visited the simulator hall where a crew was practicing for their upcoming mission. Nearby are some lockers for their personal stuff. I glanced at the names, none that I knew. But I remembered one: Mc Cool. I thought what a cool name for a cool guy.

It is all so sad.

This event hit me pretty hard. I didn't know anyone connected to this loss but most of the people of Houston feel the loss of the astronauts in some way. It's like loosing a friend. My mother up in Ft Worth called me Monday to tell me that sonic boom shook her house. She didnt know what had happened, just small items in the kitchen were falling off the shelves. Also she mentioned that the EBAY whores that were claiming to have parts for sale. That came to fast stop I hope.

I checked out Ebay & this STS-107 mission patch is what caught my attention. I hope the families really benefit from this & not a scam.

Hydrazine is nasty stuff. Once inhaling and you've bought the farm.

OTOH that stuff isn't on everything, only on the propulsion elements. I think the Gov overstated the danger a bit to keep collectors away. I would have told everybody, that if they sell it on ebay, the FBI will put in a nice bid for about 10 years of jail sentence.

Interestingly though to see some people bidding hundreds of $$$ for a mission patch, they could buy for a few at any visitor's center. They're doing this to refuse to pay to burn the sellers, hehe.

The whole ebay culture is a fascinating phenomenon, isn't it?

Maybe they ARE sick.... with burn marks on their hands from touching the contaminated parts. AKA idiots.

Too bad ebay pulled them (although they had to): I'd loved to see some folks when the FBI knocks on their doors...

After Challenger some people tried to sell of debris, that washed ashore and sure enough they got visits from your less friendly gov representatives.
