My all time favorite is McCallan's 18 yr old Gran Reserva, it comes in a wooden box. Much better than their regular 18 and even better than the 25 |

I drink it a variety of ways but primarily neat with water on the side. If I am out on the town I drink it on the rocks. |

How do you guys like it, straight (neat?), with ice, splash of water? Glenlivet website says a little ice or water is a good thing. I normally throw in an ice cube or two. |

Ron I just got a bottle from my wife as well. It's quite good. The youngest whiskey Macallan makes is 7yo so it is @ least that. They actually make 2 versions of the cask strength, one for the US market and one for the UK. I assume they are really both the same with the only difference being the label. The UK version has 10yo on the label so I would also assume the US version is 10yo. Macallan has a wonderful variety of scotches to choose from. I am a big fan of thier 25yo. If anyone else is interested thier web site is www.macallan.com, it shows everything they make. |

My wife just got me a bottle of Macallan Cask Strength for an early V-day present. It's 58.6% vs 40% for the standard 12 year. It's good, but definitely stronger alcohol taste than the regular. Anybody know the age of the Cask Strength? Can't find it anywhere on the box, or even on their website. She said the store was advertising it as 18 year old.

Charles..good tinking about the water on the side. To my knowledge, I think Cardhu only offers the 12 y.o. I will see if I can find out for sure. |

Well, I had me one of them single chocolate malts down at the Sonic drive-in the other night to chase down one of them there double-meat, double-cheeseburgers with some ol' greasy fries. I never tried drinkin' water with a malt but I guess it could work. I couldn't a held a double malt. That single one really filled me up. Besides that, I didn't know that malts had names. I thought they only came in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

Howie, I guess I don't notice that because I usually drink water on the side just for that reason. Do they make anything other than a 12yo? |

Charles, So glad you enjoyed Cardhu! I know this is an odd question, but did you find Cardhu a little more dehydrating than other scotches? I always feel parched after 2 drinks. |

Phil, I guess they are making it somewere else now. Your right about them being a small distillery but my understanding is they have been family owned since they started, I guess that is not correct. I have also heard a lot of the little guys are owned by large conglomerates like you said. I suppose thats ok as long as they keep making the whiskey the same. |

Springbank is a great malt - unfortunately the distillery in Campbeltown has been mothballed. This seemingly occurs frequently for the smaller distilleries as they change hands amongst the big conglomerates. For those truly into malts, there is a great magazine called "Malt Advocate", published by John Hansell. Slainte! |

Howie, Got the Cardhu last night, it is the 12yo. Very nice! It is amazingly smooth for a scotch so young. I think I found a new addition to my collection, good call! My wife liked it as well. I am intrigued by the hint of peat, I have had others from Speyside that were much heavier in the peat. This one seems much more balanced, just the right amount of that flavor. Let me know if you find any Springbank. |

Tyler you might try www.parkaveliguor.com they have a very big selection, they might have the Springbank. Hubert, Oban is a bit on the smokey side but I like to taste different flavors from time to time. If you want to try a West Highland with a little less smoke try the Glenlochy, they have a 19yo that is quite nice! Howie, I checked out Cardhu and discovered it is definately a Speyside, thanks for the info. Wayne the Glenlivet is a very good Scotch as well. I totaly agree there is a world of difference between the 12 & 18yo, 18 is far superior IMHO. Jim I see we have another wino in the group. My wife and I have been collecting for years. We have accumulated hundreds of bottles from all over the world. We also started a wine club in or neighborhood which now has about 80 members. |

I generally stick to The Glenlivet 18yo. I've drank more expensive and rarer sm scotches, but it's still my all-time favorite. Even though it lists for over $100 for a 750ml bottle, I buy it at Costco for around $80 and I prefer it over other sm's that sell for twice as much. A big disclaimer, though: don't think that buying the 12yo is just a matter of sacrificing a little quality in order to save some dough. It's a completely different animal and doesn't resemble the 18yo in any way. |

I used to drink Cardhu and Lagavulin but from some reason lost my taste for it. I still love Johnny Walker Blue, but it's a blend and is for special occasions or expense accounts only. I now mostly drink Crown Royal Reserve or wine. Don't get me started on wine, I think I spend more money on it than I do my Ferrari! |

Dont take what i said too seriously. Im not suggesting you should've fed your kid alcohol at every meal. My parents never supplied my with alcohol, they would get kind of pissed when they saw 5 empty 18 packs the next morning when they knew only 8 kids were over, and they didnt encourage it. They just didnt mind if i had 10-15 ppl over out back around the fire place or a few people inside. My mom used to get a little pissed when she would find like 5 empty 18 packs and she knew less than 10 kids were over. They figured that since as long as i was a good student, athlete and person they knew i would be fine. the problem is when some kids drink, they dont mainain their sense of judgement gets skewed, some more than others.. |

I think there is some truth to that. We occasionally let our Daughter drink @ home before she went off to college. She does not seem to be to interested in it now. I'm not sure though that it is because of what we did or just her not being into it. |

You are getting the wrong impression of me. I dont drink expensive liquor, when i even DO drink liquor, because i am in college. im also more of a beer person because i dont get *that* drunk because of my tolerance, which is higher than most of my friends' at college due to all the practice i got in highscool. Right now there are probably alot of parents here thinking "what kind of responsible parent would allow their children to drink!" IMO if you DONT let your kids drink you are a bad parent. Its always the kids who didnt drink in highschool that end up getting f----ed up and winding up in the hospital with alcohol poisining, or worse!

Springbank is from Campbeltown the 21yo is made in very small quantities. Not real easy to find. I only managed to find 2 bottles locally in 2 seperate stores. My understanding is there are only about 1K bottles a year of the 21yo sent to the US. I have heard it is avaialable over the net though! |

Specifically the Vince Lombardi ones but the Bear Bryant was also right on! Didn't mean to rag on you about mixing the scotch, just curious. You should try a really good one, like the McCallen, just on the rocks and see if you like it better than mixed. You never know you might switch! |

If single malts are expensive, then i havent drank any before. lol. last time i had scotch with diet coke was when i was in mexico last year. that week is sort of a blur. it tastes good. regular coke is too sweet. no need to be @$$holes about it guys. Southern comfort is still my liquor of choice, followed by jager, malibu and whatever my parents have in the liquor cabinet, which usually consists of vodka, sambucca, grappa, etc. one time i made the mistake of trying to drink campari straight. when i look at a bottle of that stuff i get the chills. the highest quality liquor i ever drank was XO special. At some point i will try blue label, once my friends dad opens the bottle . Charles, which quotes do you mean? the vince lombardi ones are true for everything. you name it, they hold true- football, any sport, school, carrer, life - everything.
