Having spent a fair amounr of time in my wreckless youth driving fully marked cars, 'slick top' (marked car but no light bar) and full unmarked cars (which CANNOT be used for traffic enforcement by law where I worked)...I can attest to the dangers of unmarked cars in traffic lanes. There is also a hazzard durring darkness with fully activated light bars, as the 'pretty lights' attract drunk driver much like flames attract moths, which is why in Calif. freeway stops you never know there's a stop going on until you pass it (as long as meridian width would allow you to get both vehicles far off the road).

I've done some scary things in my life, but having to be feet from cars and 18 wheelers going 75+ MPH past you tops the list. (imagine the wind/suction affect on a person from passing trucks!).

If the SUV driver was drunk then of course he should be prosecuted. But Ken is right. Unmarked cops parked in the emergency lanes are a dangerous hazard. Cop cars need to look like cop cars. Sometimes I can't even see their lights inside their illegally tinted windows.

Save a pig.

I saw the video. Wasn't the SUV driver drunk? Like Les said, if that was a normal car on the side of the highway changing a tire, the civilian would have gotten hurt.

It's a mixed bag, I agree. But dammit when you see those red and blues 10 miles ahead you pay attention.

I agree with Les 100% on this. Ken, what were you thinking when you posted this??? That's like blaming the woman for getting raped!! Until the shoulder is deemed a legitimate driving lane, the SUV moron is at fault, NOT the revenue collector, er, speed enforcement cop.

Like most, I hold conflicting views on police, in general, and on their speed limit enforcement activities specifically. Nevertheless, the bozo in that SUV was a total a**h****. Imagine your wife, or other loved one in traffic or broken down in the left lane (with hazard lights on, as the police car had) being slammed by that SUV. Would you be so cavalier and flippant? Hmmmm....

Lets point the finger where it belongs on this one.

Turn on FOX news tonight. you will soon see a video clip where an officer was seriously injured while stopped on a busy freeway investigating an accident. How could the incoming SUV driver be so stupid? Look again...

The police car struck is a "stealth car", no light bar on the roof, no flashing lites that I can see. Despite all the "Serve and Protect" crap what we get out there is "Entrap and Ticket". Stupid bureaucracy. Stupid, stupid cops.

If that unfortunate officer had a flashing blue/red display going the likelyhood of such a tragedy would be nil. Isn't it time to stop endangering our best and bravest by sending them out skulking for dollars to offset gross municipal waste? Let's all demand police cars look like police cars!

Save a cop's life today!!!
