Hi Rob,

That's really cool! I drove my first Viper last year and wrote a post about it. The first time I drove it, I loved the set-up as well (your legs disappear so far down it felt like driving an open-wheel car! I loved how the shifter is angled toward you, and the acceleration and brakes were pretty impressive. Only thing that really bugged me was that it didn't have a dead pedal - made it really uncomfortable as to where to rest the foot (someone told me they added this on the 2003's). I also don't care for the long hood - just personal preference, I drove some Panoz GTRA's around Road Atlanta and the long nose is very similar to the Viper shape. You get used to it though pretty quickly.

Did you take a shower to get the scent off as to not piss of the Ferrari?

Did you burn your leg on the exhaust pipes?

My friend Greg finally let me drive his Viper for the first time. It's a 1996 RT/10 with a few mods. Here's a pick with Greg and chicks...

Upload

First impression is that it feels like you're in a cockpit like a Lotus. Very comfortable fit though and visibility was surprisingly good. Really weird the redline is so low vs. the Ferrari, but the gears are so tall that it seems like you can stay in 1st and 2nd all day long. The gas pedal had a weird pivot feel, but once I got the hang of it (mile #2) it felt really good. The handling is very responsive, I can see how you could let one get away without being careful. The acceleration I guess is really good, but you don't feel it, it really sneaks up on you. The feel is kinda how a big 400 hp truck feels. I guess that's just because a truck and Viper are about the only things with that much HP I've driven. The sound is awesome, especially letting the gas off, but I think that's all the mods Greg has done. Overall I think a fun, great looking classic car that you could drive in the city on a daily basis. I wouldn't quite say that was as doable in the Ferrari.

In comparison to other cars I've been in or driven.

Ferraris - Sound the best of anything I've ever been in and it's the only car that has provided me enough passion to tell my wife she's #2, buy one by keeping a 10 year old BMW, and spend hours running this site and doing other Ferrari related activities.

Lotus - By far the most impressive car I've driven acceleration wise. I drove a late model 8 and an 80's 4. Handling very similar to the 328, but the turbo's can't be beat.

Lamborghini Diablo - Just got a ride, but purely the most exotic of the cars. Still like the Ferrari sound, but everything is just on another exotic plain with the Diablo.

I haven't spent any time in a late model Porsche or Ferrari.

In closing I love all of these cars as cars and don't mind driving them, riding in them, or looking at them. In the end my passion is with Ferrari, I can't explain it, call it what you want, but I only give up large chunks of my life to Ferrari.
