William, I dont know if your mechnically inclined or even have the time but it is not hard at all to setup. X-10 systems are VERY user friendly, expandable, customizable, and resonably priced. If your looking for a full blown hardwired system forget it. But a good wireless system properly installed will be nice and will give you as much video as you want wherever you want including the garage. And yes, it will call you on your cell if it is triggered. Smart homes are very neat. A hard wired smart home setup "after" being built is going to be quite expensive and involved. Most go with hardwires during the construction and a wireless sytem afterwards. Most operate on 2.4Ghz and are pretty dependable. Maybe money is no object. There are alot of variables here. |

William (& John)... i don't know much about what you're looking for, but i used to work for an alarm company and we'd often have to go out into the field, replacing alarm systems for new clients, etc, etc- ADT was always the "aw, man, get some else to go out there" job... i would definitely suggest going with a company that specializes in what it is you're looking for and not some big corporation that's incorporated what you're looking for as a sort of cash-on-the-side thing... i'm assuming what Doody referred you to is just that, but in case it's not and you find yourself still looking, my personal suggestion would be to steer clear of ADT or any other such alarm company that does this sorta thing on the side... John, this isn't an attack on you, just a suggestion from past experience... Again, like i said, i don't know much about what you're looking for, i just used to go out in the field and play with alarm trinkets all day... |

talk to Todd Broyard at Black Lab Alarm. http://www.blacklabalarm.com/ [email protected] they did my system, and while i don't have any video stuff, they told me about a house they did for a guy out on the vineyard, and they camera'd the thing up during construction (and presumably once completed) with internet feeds so that wherever he was (office, home, europe - whatever) he could watch what was going on. i don't know all the details, but these guys know high-end alarm systems, and video is a big deal for them. i also remember that he had just finished a big job right near lime rock the last time i saw him. doody. |

thinking of starting a new house in Ct this summer, about 15 minutes from Lime Rock. i'd like to get a security system with cameras so I can see everything in & around the house & so I can "visit" my house over the net while I am away. What companies provide this sort of service ? Thanks |
