Hmmm... Let me dress provacatively and sing suggestive songs but at the same time, try to be a role model for young girls who do not yet understand what it means to be a grown woman...

Funny... Charlotte Church makes money from her music & she doesn't have to resort to this sort of thing...

I second that! Norah Jones has true musical talent and doesn't have to pose nude to be appreciated. I saw her in Austin last summer, great show, hope to see her again next year.

BTW Taping the grammy awards tomorrow, just for her!

How many here agree that Norah Jones is hot? She does not possess the overt sexuality of the likes of Britney, Sharika, etc... but man, she's beautiful, intelligent and has talent. #1 in my books...

Wow you have way more invested in this arguement than me and have done your research (watched her diary show, WOW!). I guess know your enemy right!

I guess you prove my point again when you refer to her as "Shitney", but emmenim is now "Mr. Mathers" WOW! She is evil because little girls are now dressing more provocative, but he is ok because his young audience is not targetted. I would propose that targeted or not he is aware that children listen to his ramblings and he owns the same responsibility as britney. In the end she encourages a slutty look, he is devalues women and promotes drug use and violence. Besides the language that he uses. The very sad conclusion is that he is the real talent.

I agree, it is nice to have a civil disagreement. I appreciate your input on this site. But I also think you should be more embarrassed than I for watching any episode of MTV Diary, Britney or other!

LOL, Terry, i gulped hard when i read that, too...

i agree, parental responsibility is far greater than Britney's advisors, and her advisors' responsibilities should definitely extend beyond her own...

Her music does suck- but that's just my opinion... & i have no certificate that says i have good taste... :-)

i forced myself to watch her MTV Diary and if you watch it, i think you'll find she's a bit of a snob, too... HorDES of money and queen-like treatment do not constitute permission to act like one... Although, it's ultimately her choice to act however she chooses, so i guess this, too, is a moot point...

Yes, compared to Marshall, she is a saint (in some ways), but Mr. Mathers doesn't specifically target young kids as his main audience...

i'm clueless as to why you spent this much time on this subject- personally, i appreciate the dialogue- it's nice to have a decent, intelligent conversation once in a while, thank you... :-)

As far as her wrecked Ferrari goes, let's put a picture of her standing next to it, after she crashed it, on www.hotornot.com and see what kind of rating she gets...! :-)

DES,
In one breath, it is britneys fault that your cousin wants to wear her clothes, but it is a parents responsibility to keep rap out of the hands of children. It doesn't work both ways. I agree that Britney has a greater responsibility because of her audience, but her HorDES of advisors should hold most of the responsibility because her image is their job. Enough with the excuses for britney.

My Position:

Ugly- a very hard case to make considering her popularity and the millions she makes off her looks alone. I would bet she sells many more posters than albums!

Music Sucks- come on, it is pop music (a huge step up from "who let the dogs out".)

A Snob - don't know, but she is a 22 year old with a boat load of money and everyone is treating her like a queen.

A bad role model- compared to other role models in pop music, she is not that evil! I believe in more parental responsibility (yes I do have kids) and considering (you brought him up) Emminem and the like she is an angel.

Overall I am embarassed that I have spent this much time on this subject and the truth be known I think she is hot. I just can't stand the fact that she destroyed a Ferrari!

Terry... i don't know if she's been arrested, either, but my little cousin does pay attention to news paper articles, news updates, etc. when she sees them- she wants to wear those same revealing clothes, but it's her mother who stops her- still, she's influenced and cannot be watched or counter-influenced 24 hours a day...
Yes, Britney is young and should be entitled to mistakes, but she has horDES of advisors, etc, etc. that instruct her on this and that and when it really comes down to it, it's apparent that she doesn't care about each individual fan or the fact that a majority of them are my counsin's age... Mixed songs, too, for example are also inappropriate- one song may be just fine, but then the next song on the album is hit me, baby, one more time or some stupid crap like that...

Not all rappers promote drugs use and violence, but a majority of them do, so i'll concede that point to you- touche... The 12 year olds wearing snoop d, o, double gizzle shirts & cypress hill shirts are not at fault and neither are those rappers- why are the parents letting these little kids taint their young, innocent minds with this crap...? If you wanna listen to it when you're an adult, that's one thing, but little kids shouldn't be subject to things they're not familiar with...

It's not just the Britney thing that i take personal, it's a culmination of things, but she was brought up, so i figured i'd take it out on her... :-)

On the same token, my cousin's 3-year-older brother sneaks an Eminem cd into his disc man every so often, unbeknownst to his parents- his parents can't stop the influence if he hiDES it from them, so who's wrong here...? i'm the wrong one for not letting his mother know about it... i see the influence Eminem's music has begun to have on him- his profane language with his friends, his attitude towards his friends and family members and his lack of respect for his sister among other young females who has contact with on a regular basis... So after i see the adverse effect that this entertainment has had on him, i approach his mother with the information i have...
Then i get in my car and go home, listening to Eminem's new album, 'cause i'm a huge fan- but i'm old enough to know that it's just entertainment...

i'm not usually into blaming the entertainers for the influence they have on kids- it's the parents responsibility to make sure the kids don't have access to this crap- but entertainers like Britney give mixed signals and that makes it confusing for young minds, like my little cousin's...

Ok... Soap box is back in your corner... :-)

Again, I am not the defender of Britney, but give me a brake. She has never been arrested, that I know of. Yea she smokes and drinks, but she is of age (I think). She is also a very young girl that has a boat load of money and fame and you have to expect for her to have some short comings in the maturity department. Rappers in general get a bad "rap" because they are PROMOTING drug use and glorifing violence and I see a lot of under 12 year olds wearing Cypress Hill, and Snoop Dogg. shirts. The Britney Crowd (I think) seems much younger and are not to interested in the People Magazine articles or Gossip rags. Her videos (as far as I know) and performances do not promote illegal activities. She does dress very revealing, but to be honest who doesn't in her field. Being you are refering to a family member being affected, I now know it is something personal for you, so I understand. Just kind of ironic considering your defense of others.

"...but run to the defense of every gangster rapper that is discussed."
LOL, Terry- am i really that bad...? i come to the defense of the rappers, 'cause it seems like they always get a bad rap (ok, that was cheesy:-))... Shittney just doesn't do it for me- i don't find her attractive, at all... & although i can't think of one off the top of my head, i'm sure there's some pop stars out there that are good role models...

i have a 10 year old cousin who likes Britney- music, clothes, posters- silly crap like that... Not to say that her parents shouldn't monitor her media intake, but one minute these stars are doing a disney movie or a concert on Nickelodeon and the kids get into it and they become instant fans, then the next minute, they're picture is plastered all over the paper and the trojan horse television of them drinking, getting drunk, committing crimes of some sort- then what...? All of a sudden, my cousin'd mother has to tell her she can't watch her or buy her music or this or that, anymore...? If you're going to be a role model for a certain demographic, keep in mind that you're a public figure 24 hours a day...
i don't care if gangster rappers get caught smoking crack in a stolen SUV with loaded guns in the back or whatever other stereotype might come along with rap- they're not trying to appeal to little kids, so who cares... But people like Britney do and she's not a good role model... Ok... you can have the soap box now... :-)

I have heard many people say "I prefer Shakira or (any other female popstar)", but UGLY, wow that is a first for me, with the exception of some girls that seem a little defensive, but definately the first man to say she is UGLY, You must have some standards! I think she is a refressing break from the anorexic(sp?) look that has been so popular. And wow show me a pop star that is a good role model and I will show you someone that doesn't sell many records, with very few exceptions. I am not a huge fan of Britney, I just think it is interesting that DES would choose her to bag on, but run to the defense of every gangster rapper that is discussed. One thing I do hate about her is she destroyed a Modena last year, because she could not drive a stick (or so it was rumored). Not trying to start a Britney war, just an observation.

No question, the Olsen twins have grown into two very pretty young women, but you guys do understand that they're still little girls, right...? 16 or 17...? LOL... i wanna know what their mother looks like... :-)

Oh- and Shittney is ugly- always was, always will be... But that's just my opinion and, personally, it's wrong to judge someone solely based on their physical appearance...

...which is why i'd like to add that her music sucks & that she's a snob and a horrible role model. :-)

Hey Bret, a few years ago, Kid Rock was the musical guest on SNL. During the "Weekend Report" he came on and did some sort-of skit. Anyways, he mentioned the Olsen twins - and keep in mind, that a few years ago they were like 14-15 yrs old - he had said:

"Why are the men of America waiting for the Olsen twins to turn 18? Come on, if there's grass out in the field, go and play!!!"

Britney's blazingly hot. The Olsen twins are picking up ground on her though. Two hot, young twins are hard to beat. Today I watched a whole movie with them in it where they were down in the Caribbean up to their usual antics. So hot, bikinis the whole time.
