Ahhhh.... I was still using the old website for the museum. This one is much better. I drive by the place all the time and never realized it was back there. I know where I'm going during one of my lunches next week.

Where is the track exactly? I would like to drive out just to take a look. I have seen the aerial pics, but I don't have any idea where it is. Every time I fly in and out of here I try to find it from the sky to no avail.

Also, rumor has it that Lotus Cars USA is seriously considering moving its operations to the facility. This would coincide with the launch of the Elise in the US and they are talking of creating a driving experience a la Porsche at the track.

I will probably make a trip out there, I heard it's now one of the best road courses in America.

The Barber track is only about 10 miles from my house. I CANNOT WAIT till things get going out there.

Went back by the hotel during lunch to get something from my room and noticed the license plates on at least the turbo 911 and the Cayenne are Georgia Distributor plates, FWIW.

OK, I figured it had to do with the Barber track. I'll see if I can "bump" into one of them at the hotel bar or lounge and see if I can get a little more info.

One thing I am surprised at is that the Cayenne isn't really as ugly as I thought. Besides the front end, which is horrible, the rest of the vehicle is rather attractive. It's almost too "normal" because you don't immediately notice it parked with other SUV's. But, those huge Porsche brakes really give it away.

Actually, the reason is this: Porsche recently moved the venue for its Porsche Driving Experience high performancedriver training from road Atlanta to the new & spectacular (and less expensive) Barber Motorsports Park in B'ham. Plus, they are doing a bunch of early market reveals in the US there as well, and I believe also Cayenne driver training.

Mercedes makes the ML up there and they have a pretty extensive off-road track, they could be testing it there? Don't know? Or it could just be a dealer ad meeting, but why meet there?

Since I don't visit Porsche message boards, I had no other place to post this... but, here at the hotel I stay at frequently in Birmingham, AL apparently some people from Porsche have a block of rooms for the next few weeks. There's a Porsche hospitality suite and meetings going on all the time. In the parking lot there are a few 911's, at least one turbo, some Boxsters, and at least one new Cayenne with Manufacturer's plates. I didn't even know the Cayenne was out yet. On the hotel TV they keep showing Porsche promo videos for the Cayenne.

I'm just trying to figure out why some Porsche people (the concierge in the lounge tells me some are the designers) are in Alabama of all places. Maybe they are doing some testing at the new Barber track here? Dunno, but thought I would pass it on. I'm hoping to run into some of them so I can get a closer look at the Cayenne.
