I've been seeing a lot of Humvees for sale. They do all seem to be diesel. Pretty cheap too. Apparently the last year the Humvees were allowed to be sold to civilians was 1987. Does that sound right? They also have a lightweight body I hear. Is it that the body panels are different or are they lighter simply because they don't have the interior amenities a Hummer would? |

I was in touch with a guy a few months ago who was suppose to be getting a few genuine military surplus HUMVEEs. But his deal fell through. Were all the military HUMVEEs diesel powered? I can't say that I like the idea of a diesel anyway. |

Arlie, Apologies to you as well, I didn't see the other thread. My point with the Tahoe/frame discussion is that it's not frame/chassis swappable with anything else, like Tahoe/Escalade/Pickup Truck, etc. -Ben |

Just wondering. Do any of you guy's live in remote areas, or in smaller towns that get a lot of winter? I can understand it if you live in LA, but here in Montana, the Hummer rules. My wife drove one for several years, and in the winter, in deep snow 3 to 4 Ft, with ice, lots of it, it's really nice to lumber home on the highway, in the dead of winter, in 3 feet of snow, at about 60 MPH! |

It appears it is a combo of both the Tahoe and the Suburban. You have to scroll down past the Saab article to get to the H2 info. http://www.roadandtrack.com/news/ampersand/PrintArticle.asp?ArticleID=263 |

Arlie, that was me(foot in mouth) http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/132929/193004.html "Arlie, I think the H2 is built on the Tahoe chassis." I "thought" I had the winning lottery numbers last week too, LOL. Sorry for the misinformation. |

Ben, thanks for the SECOND minor correction. A few weeks ago on an identical thread, I repeated what I had heard about the H2 being built on a Suburban frame. Someone corrected me by saying that they were built on a Tahoe frame. I figured that they knew more than I did, so I passed it on. I guess they were incorrect.

Tom, I agree with you, but unfortunately, not everyone can afford a car that will loose half its value in two years (or such). |

shouldnt everyone buy a car cause they desire it or want it? I can understand a little bit about depreciation but hey thats going to happen, its a car. I would say dont buy a car based on how it will depreciate buy it cuase you want to drive it and enjoy it! |

Arlie, "3. The General Motors H2 which is a HUMVEE look-a-like that is built on a Chevy Tahoe chassis."... IIRC the H2 has a 5" wider wheelbase and therefore is built on it's own chassis, common misconception that they are on the Tahoe frame. -Ben P.S. Anyone know why I said "They are all lobsters?" |

Drove briefly the H1. Could not get used to that big windshield divider, plus they depreciate big time. Both are deceptivly cramped inside considering how much real estate they take up. |

I have driven both. The H1 drives like what you would imagine a semi drives like and the H2 drives very similar to a Tahoe. Interior materials are way cheap....imho |

Once again, I don't think you guys are all discussing the same vehicle. There are 3 types. 1. The military 4WD vehicle called the HUMVEE. 2. The civilian version of the HUMVEE called the Hummer which is a civilianized version of the HUMVEE with a more comfortable interior. 3. The General Motors H2 which is a HUMVEE look-a-like that is built on a Chevy Tahoe chassis. Basically resembles a goofy looking HUMVEE. A sheep in wolf's clothing. |

Why do you need a drag Hummer H2? With 500hp and all that mass, it would still be slow, why use even more gas? The H2 is good for what it is, a people mover, a head turner, and an inclement weather golf club car. |

I can't remember who, but one company (Callaway I think) came out with a super charger for the H2 that puts out 500 +/- HP. With the supercharger is the only way I would want an H2. Stock for stock, I'd rather drive an H1. |

The turbodiesel will top out at like 100, it's quicker than my Wrangler (not that that says much, lol). Raining, a few telephone poles, assorted signs, and a stone wall = totalled Hummer. |

How in the world do you total a Hummer? They crawl everywhere so you never actually go fast enough to cause significant damage to yourself and they're practically indestructible off road. I had a friend with a good Hummer experience. Really stupid car, but I have to agree with Matt. Everyone wants a Hummer! It sucked to sit in but it was a blast to drive. I'd consider getting one, and since I'd be doing the ridiculous, I'd look out for one of the military ones. I heard that there are differences (anyone know?) Gut the thing and put a quasicomfortable interior in it. That middle console is so damn huge you could probably fit a decent size plasma TV there... |

One of my friends used to have an H1 back like 3 or 4 years ago, before he totalled it. Cool as hell, but he got like 6mpg and with diesels prices as they are now at $2.00 a gallon... Granted he couldn't care less about gas prices, but for me that would be a little much considering how much I drive and my not inheriting millions of dollars. Couldn't keep up with the Jeep in the woods, but forget about anything open, you could take wopdedoos at like 50mph in the Hummer which is insane. On the topic of the H2, I would take it long before anything else in that price range. Maybe someday if I'm rich I'll get an H1, they're getting kind of common now though with the whole buy one at your local Chevy dealership though. |

Thanks, Erik! Also, thank you for the clarification on the upcoming H2 SUT....I had been wondering what the true facts were on that. BTW, I do really like the H2 in the grey color -- it doesn't appear to be as overwhelming as the other colors. |

Eric, Nice name, But the H2 will still sell for around 50-60k but in the next year GM will bring out a new hummer called the H2 SUT which will cost about 30k-40 and will be essentially an h2 with a truck bed. Think Escalade EXT Erik |

Don't kid yourself, these things are still Chevy's so you can expect Chevy quality. It's no wonder their resale values will drop quickly and reliability will be much less than average. |

Speaking of H1's going for under $35k...one client of mine who bought a black "special ed." H2, mentioned that his salesman told him that the new production H2's will be dropping in price over the next year or so to around mid 30's -- has anyone heard this? Man, I'd hate to be the guy shelling out 60k for one now, just to see them sell for half that in the near future. |

If you're going to get one or the other, no Hummerlight. I'd take an H1, but I wouldn't get a new one. It would be great to go to Tahoe, because in the Winter, it is difficult to get to my place even with a Jeep. I understand the older H1s are going for under 35K. Art |

LOL, Tillman! Yes, they are all over the place here as well. A buddy of mine (also owns a yellow 360) bought a yellow H2 to match his F-car -- he loves it. I have several clients who have bought H2's recently also -- they seem to be the latest rage. Personally, I think the yellow H2 looks like a squashed school bus . And I thought my Chevy 4-door 2500 HD truck was big...those H2's are huge. Wonder what kind of turning radius those things have. I have enough trouble doing a U-turn in the truck. |

The H2 is the world's most ridiculous Chevy Surburban. They're all over the Metroplex, and they're all seem to be driven by soccer moms. The only time one of those is going offroad down here is when they back over the flowerbed. |

Guys wanted to know your opinion on the truck. Also if anyone in the southeastern PA, NJ, or DE area are looking to buy one please let me know. I work part time at Armen hummer in ardmore and if interested could get a few thousand off sticker for H2's and much more than that off H1's. The H1 isn't selling that great and I can get anyone on this board a great deal. Drop me an email if interested at [email protected]. Or you can call the dealership and ask for Tod Gomer he is the head of the dealership at 1-866-pa-hummer. Don't forget to mention Erik Panichi (smith is my middle name) told you to call. There are also a couple used H1's on hand. let me know Erik |
