Excellent, thanks everyone. I'm going to check into all of these. The dealer recommended an "unaffiliated" service called Auto Critic (www.autocritic.com) - another possibility; anyone dealt with them? Think I'd much rather go with your recommendations. Rob, thanks for chiming in, I was going to e-mail you on the side if I didn't see you post here.

All the best,
~Chris

My BMW mechanic when I lived in Addison was Bill at Overseas Service Haus. Knows the E36 in and out, he worked on mine for years and was an X dealer mechanic. Location is far North Dallas, but not sure the exact city, may be Plano, Just North of Preston and Cambell intersection on West side.

Go buy the past issue of European Car Magazine. They had an in-depth article (20 pages or so) on all of the E36 3 series BMW's. They covered all of the known issues by year and model. The article may also be online.

Eurospec Motorsports in West Ft. Worth
talk to Shane Wolfe

Get it on a lift & cover all known issues with the car.
I don't know what he will charge but he's knows BMW's.

Good luck

I'm looking into arranging a pre-purchase inspection on a BMW M3 in Arlington, TX. Does anyone know a good mechanic to recommend in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? Anyone been through this process before and have any advice?

Many thanks in advance,
~Chris
